Does different color streamers work to help in the judging of combat meets?

RE: streamer colors

Black streamers have turned out to be the most visible in the widest variety of light and background.

Nothing is perfect though. Black often doesn't show up against a treeline very well. But lighter colors like orange really do disappear when up in the air against a bright sky.

Where do you get streamer material?

Montague 02-06-2006 12:06 PM

RE: streamer colors

I get mine from Mike Fredricks at Hat Trick. He sells both rolls of streamer material and also pre-measured, pre-rolled streamers. I don't have his website handy right this moment, but I can dig it up if you want to go with him.

You can also use black party crepe. Some guys roll it up and saw it in half with a bandsaw to make it the right width.

Btw, anyone know if there is a date yet for the Bloomfield, CT contest?

RE: streamer colors

No date for Bloomfield, yet. The date is usually posted to this forum within 24 hours of them setting it.

They are having it though, right? I was a bit worried that they might not hold it at all this year.

I believe so. I'll email Rick just to be sure, and post his answer to that.

black, we tryed several in practice light green was a hoot as it virtually disapears! hat trick stuf is the most widely used in official meets and it is a great product, but the dollar store variety works ok for practice. we wedged the rolls firmly between two pieces of wood and ran it thriugh a ban saw ...worked ok for practice purple and blue work ok too.

I just talked to Rick on the phone. He's not sure if there'll be a Bloomfield contest this year. I'll post any updates as I get them.

For practice, I like to use the flagging tape and no sticky. It gives you more time flying before you run out of targets.

Darin,
That would suck, I hope there is a contest up there. Is it a time/organization thing or something else? Anything I can do to help out? I like coming up that way, and Bloomfield has been a well run event and a pretty good field to fly combat. And, of course, I have family up that way, and they like to come out as well.

Kirk,
The offer to help is much appreciated. Be sure to drop Gozer an email and let him know (better coming from you than me). I'm pretty sure Gozer & Dave are up to organizing if the club is up to hosting it. Dave will try to attend the next club meeting and we'll know more after that.

Right, I'll do that. Can you PM me his email address? I'm not sure I have the right address here.
