I am looking for a source of ripstop nylon. Online and chain stores is what I am mainly looking for.

If you don't find any, regular nylon works just as well and comes in more colors.

Midair,
We get ours from Hancock fabrics here in Shreveport. I don't know if you have those stores where you are. Check with the Fabrics stores there, some may carry it. Lane |

If you get it at a fabric store, what is it called? I've seen JoAnn Fabrics in town.

I've found that if you walk in to any fabric store and ask for ripstop nylon, you get mostly blank stares.
However, every store I've been in had some. Look under "rain wear" or "outter wear" or simular sections. Tell the employee you are looking for raincoat, tent, or decretive flag material. I've found the stuff in Hancock, JoAnne, and G Street fabric stores in this area. Different colors and wildly varying prices at each place, so it pays to shop around. |

Try Walmart- although the selection stinks I've found it in both 3/4 oz( ugly green) and 1.5 oz (navy Blue) at $1.00 /yard. Guess what colors my next bird is going to be :D .

RIPSTOP NYLON
There are some great sources of rip stop type nylon. The key is use some noodle power. The orignal reason for ripstop nylon was PARACHUTES so go online and look for use parachutes, or find a skydiving fabric supply store. THEY DO EXSIST the benefit is they offer a fabric called ZERO P which means it is non-porous and offers more lift with less air (pressure) to pass trough the fabric. It is fairly expensive, but well worth it, this stuff takes a beating. Just be sure to not expose any nylon to the sun for extended periods it will break down in a hurry
They have F-111 fabric and tons of other nylons that are pored like you would see in a kite or parachute pants. |

Actually, the pored stuff applies better, because the water-based polyurethane soaks into the fabric.

You can also get a good selection at Kitebuilder.com including rather inexpensive closeout items. You will also know what weight the cloth is.

Yep,
Our field is a couple towns from Manchester in Merrimack , about 1/2 hour from Salem. Modebbly and I are in the same club. I would think that we could hook up during your stay, although the way the weather is going we might be flying off a snowy field ( which we do all winter here). I'll e-mail you . JESTER |

I buy 1.1 oz. ripstop from www.para-gear.com to make chutes for
r/c skydivers. It may be more than you want to spend at $8/yard for ultra-low-porosity to $11/yard for zero porosity neons. Gary |
