D.D. combat?

I was wondering if any of your people out there have tried the Dimond Dust for combat? Seems that it is a cheap easy plane to build and with a 40 on it would have enough power to pull the streamer. My D.D. fly's alot better than my gremlin and is way faster. Just a thought.

Which is a good thing to think about. There was a recent setting of articles in print with the author and his friends TRYING for a midair with the DDusts. This happens enough on accident or in combat where we are aiming at streamers. A Diamond Dust is a wonderful airplane, it's fast and stable. But it bleeds speed in the turns like any other delta and is pretty fragile compared to a Gremlin for the glancing blows that happen in combat. Speed is only desirable to a point. Too fast and it's hard to keep in the combat box (The DDusts main problem) and the streamer will literally shred to pieces, (the other DDust problem). I've flown with folks flying them in combat and all they can do is the cut and run maneuver and generally they end up centerpunching their targets. Combat ships generally have a top speed in the upper 80's, rarely 100, and light wing loadings allowing tight tight loops.

I like the Diamond Dust, someday I'll have my own, I fly a SPAD knockoff of one, but I wouldn't use one in combat, it's purpose is to go fast.
