Pizza boxes are taking over everything! Even combat. I was recently at a club where they don't cut ribbons anymore, they cut tails.

I will be attaching some action photos. By the way this photo was about a half prop turn from contact. Smack, Flop.

Sounds like fun... One good hit kills the engine, and both the "winner" and "loser" go spiraling to the ground. I know I love chasing down crashed airplanes...

I'm truly afraid of what this kind of activity is going to do to combat in general for AMA members at least. To the casual observer, this is going to look like "smashing up airplanes," a misconception that proponents of R/C combat of all types have been working hard to eliminate.

The AMA almost put a specific rule prohibiting full-contact combat into the Safety Code last year. This would mean no insurance coverage in the event your PBF went haywire and hit someone/something. With the way you're intentionally trying to bash each other out of the sky, and all primary systems out in the open where they can easily be damaged, this is not a terribly remote possibility.

Have to say I agree. Full contact combat with gas engines is asking for trouble. If something happens we may lose all forms of combat. I would advise these guys to ask the AMA if they have any coverage. I seriously doubt it. The club which allows this to occur could also have potential liability.

This is a very volatile subject with many folks. The AMA has banned any form of "intentional" full contact combat with glow engines. Not because they don't enjoy it, or because they are jealous of others who do, or because they are mean spirited but because of the possible danger to human life and the property litigation consequences.

RC Clubs can either insure themselves, and their property or their landlords property with AMA provided insurance, or by private policies. Most use AMA's insurance. AMA has said no to full contact combat. Your field is not covered by AMA insurance if you violate the saftey code.

Can you imagine going to the local State Farm agent and telling him you would like to insure your club field, its visitors and their children, their vehicles, and the other fliers while you are trying to hit each others airplanes, that once control is lost become unguided missles? I don't think the policy would be affordable even from Lords of London.

Please put streamers on your PBFs then go have a ball flying combat.

With the flight charicteristics of the PBF's...it's to darn easy to hit!!!:)...using streamers is actually more challanging! If there was EVER a one design class that would be a riot above all the rest, it would be the Pizza Boxes! Try it with streamers, you'll have the most combat fun possible, and keep the AMA happy!

The club where I took the photos is well known for flying combat. They fully intend to use PBF's as backup birds!

It was used by russian WWII pilots to destroy ennemy aircraft by colliding them on purpose !


So, what's wrong with full contact combat ??? I even propose to fly full combat with highly detailed scale aircrfaft ... What do u think ? Would be quite realistic.... :cool:

Yep......I think PBF combat at the Nats would be a riot.....sort of like the Top Gun comp a few years back when the Marines showed up with A-10's...most everybody laughed.......Guess who won.......I think a PBF in the hands of a pro would fly the A-- off about anything else...I can see it all now..the Red Baron swoops in for the kill...the PBF veers to the left..stops...hovers... and nails the guy on the way by..LOL

I thought PBF combat strategy was to prop-wash the other guy out of control. Of course - you have to be in such close proximity that a mid-air is likely anyway. BUT - if you make a short flat-bat fuse & slap a 24 X 24 PBF "wing" on it. Then your components are pretty well protected. To take it one step further - require pull-pul controls on all but the throttle. Then there's another way to disable - that's easy enough to repair. Then it's basically King of the Hill. How different is this from slope combat? As long as you can cut the throttle - or make it fail-safe - with a spring to close the throttle if the push-rod gets cut.

I have a question for you guys about the AMA. I have read several posts about AMA Laws and one thing still confuses me. If the field your flying from has AMA insurance and oh lets say your turbine jet decided that it had a crush on a car or a building or even another plane. Who or should i say whom is the victim going to be going after? Unless im mistaken their going after the pilot for the damages. I dont quite understand how a field or club can be held responsible for the actions of a pilot . I mean if i crash my car into another car its my resposibility to make sure that the damages are paid off. I just hope that the AMA insurance adjusters arent like those for homes and cars and claim "an act of god" clause. Just looking for some answers because this still confuses me..

Last year's fun fly at Portage La Prairie in Manitoba, they had "Boston Pizza" pizza box combat.

The organizers got the local BP restaurant to sponsor it, and everyone who entered got a giant Boston Pizza sticker to stick on the bottom of their PBF.

They used streamers... and it was a great crowd pleaser.

I thought it was a great marketing gimmick to help get local corporate sponsorship ;) ;)
