3mm coroplast

hey, I'm new to combat and I'm building a SPAD debut. i need some 2mm coroplast for the wing, but my local sign company only sells 3mm and 6mm. Will 3mm coro be light enough, and pliable enough to use as my wing?

RE: 3mm coroplast

It will be a little heavier, but you can build wings out of it.

You can get 2mm and 4mm from harbor sales. They ship via ups and you can get the coro cut the way you want. (harbor sales is not to be confused with harbor freight)

I just checked the place out online, and its $163!!! thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not paying That much for the coroplast

RE: 3mm coroplast

$163? for what? coro doesn't cost that much from harbor sales. I recall is being less than $10 for a 4x8foot sheet, plus a small cutting fee to make it small enough to ship.

http://www.harborsales.net/fullsheet...ts#productview

is the url for the coro product selector. It shows a 4x8 2mm sheet for $15.39, so prices are up a bit since I last bought any. On the other hand, some 4mm colors are as low as $8.14 for a 4x8 sheet.

And, something new on their website, you can order smaller sheets already cut, such as 36"x24" and smaller. They didnt used to do that.

I have no idea what you did to get that much money for a sheet of coro, but it wasn't what I was talking about.

Unless..... You didn't try to get the shipping costs on an uncut 4x8foot sheet, did you? UPS has a max size. You have to get a full sheet cut down to smaller than the UPS max. If you call them, they can tell you what the max shipping dimensions are. I seem to recall them being able to do 4' by 32", basically cutting the sheet in thirds. You might want it cut differnetly depending on how you want your flutes to run in your wing. If you can't figure it out on the website, call them on the phone, their sales folks are really helpful and friendly and last I checked, they actually know about people using the stuff for airplanes.

RE: 3mm coroplast

I tried cutting it down to 19" by 48", which is the size of my wing, but it is now 140, a decrease but still toooo much. I cant figure this out. [:@]

Did you account for the flute direction when you say 19x48, the flutes are in the 48" direction?

Remember that you need do pieces to total up to a 4x8foot sheet.

I just did a run on their website. White, 2mm coro, 1 4x8foot sheet cut in to 4 24x48 parts. You can trim down to 19" on your own easily enough.

Total, including cutting charges and shipping to maryland is $19.26. Less than twenty bucks. Pricy for a single sheet, but it goes down if you get many sheets at a time.

Checkout should look like this:

fwiw, it now says free shipping over $250. Shipping is expensive these days everywhere.

I took one sheet and specified cutting it to 12x24, 16 pieces. It calculates over $120 shipping to Texas. Here is a screen shot of the shopping cart. Whatever I did wrong must be the same issue the original poster is having.

wow. I mean WOW.

Ok, if I were you, I'd call them on the phone and ask.

It's possible that because I live pretty close to them or one of their warehouses that it costs less to ship, but via UPS it shouldn't matter that much. So something is probably off in their site. If you get them on the phone, maybe they can explain why.

very strange.

I do think it's a web site issue. I can throw a bunch of 24x36 parts into the cart and shipping is only a few dollars

RE: 3mm coroplast

That makes a bit more sense.

How many times do I have to tell folks to CALLL Harbor Sales. The website is only good for lookin at things. 3 sheets cut down to the 2x4 sheets only cost 5 or 6 bucks shipping to KC. Don't fill out that silly webform again and Call the nice folks at Harbor and get the real answer.
