.15 size combat pic

Hey guys, check out the .15 size combat site where we fly slow combat without using coroplast. All these planes are laser cut with the foam wings being cut using cnc technology. Using a 30' string followed by a 30' streamer has dramatically reduced the number of midairs. After 5 years of doing this we are still growing and interest is spreading. We use 5-6 different designs but all using the same type of .15 size engine

Pics on this site show the planes we use, pilots, midairs, construction pics as well as the cnc foam cutting machine.
The combat that we do here has no formal rules, schedules and all that other stuff....we just go out and have fun...with bragging rights afterword ... :)

Enjoy the site

Lots of great pics. If you guys are having fun that`s the main thing. If someone shows up with a long winged SSC type plane, the airframe tech race will be on though. Happy hunting.

I wish I had time to build balsa wood fuses for a combat plane! Geez, all that work and one mid air! BLAM! Maybe if you used the remains of a broken hockey stick for a fuse? How would you like that eh? Hey Texas guys, GPB's cast is off and I am limping around now. This spells DOOM for your streamers once again! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The horror, the horror! :D

Regards,
GPB

Yes we do have mid airs but what we found that by increasing the distance between the streamer and the plane to 30 feet, the number of mid airs dropped dramatically. We also discovered that by flying balsa and foam wing slow comba planes, people really tried to avoid midairs. Do we still have them....sure....but really reduced. Most people here really didn't like flying coroplast planes and prefered balsa and foam....go figure eh?

Also the design of the slow combat planes that we use....specifically CAUTION and ENIGMA are very robust and and extremely easy to fix. Build time is a few days including covering which most people cover with tape.

The interest has been so great that I am now putting together short kits which include ALL the balsa and plywood pieces which are all laser cut and the foam wing which is cnc cut as well. PM me directly for prices if you're interested. There are also more designs in the works such as VIPER, NEMISIS and TALON.

Richard

I like slow combat, too. The slowest I've flown is with .15 diesels towing around 48" foam flying wings and also with .049-.061 powered planes that rarely ever reach the dirt [through the tall grass] if knocked out of the sky. Midairs are fairly rare and most planes need to be retired after a couple of years due to being too fuel soaked than due to battle damage. A lot of midairs between slow flying and lightly built planes don't amount to anything. The quality of the dog fighting is better and the pilots have more time to avoid midairs.

Hey there Glowplubboy, nice to hear you're moving around!! As far as balsa goes, a balsa fuse will hold up surprisingly well if you use coro doublers and a litlle bi-di. The original 2548 prototype is still in relatively one piece, although battered, and it was a balsa/coro/foam fuse. As far as DOOM for the Texas crew goes....BRING IT!!

Hope you make it up Dallas way this year, let me know if ya can..
