Combat plane stands
 

Hi. Anyone have any pictures/ plans of a portable combat sized airplane stand? The normal stands at my flying won't work with smaller sized planes such as the Wonder.

Most guys just put their own stand together out of PVC. It's pretty easy to do, and you get what you want. Some guys use things like milk crates with parts cut out and some verticals added. Starting stands are really a personal-preference thing, and there are a lot of options.

I was thinking about building one out of some styrofoam that I have laying around. The stand only has to be high enough to keep the prop out of the dirt.

Yeah, but foam tends to get fuel soaked pretty quickly, and starting stands tend to take a beating. But foam should work.

And yes, they don't have to be high, but it is generally easier on you to have a stand that holds the plane up higher. A lot of guys build stands to hold the plane at waiste level, though mine is a low stand because I'm still young enough to use it comfortably.

FWIW, here's the one I use. It's 3/4" PVC and ~15" tall. I've got rubber bands attached to the back vertical pieces that go over the wing and loop over the front vertical piece. This keeps the plane in place when starting or carrying to and from the car. Just one option.

here is another option the cradles are removable and a pair of "L" shaped cradles works well for combat planes or profile setups. a combat plane would sit on this 90 degrees dif than the trainer ... or facing forward in the walker. one night project less than $20.00
you will of course have to endure a few "old fart" jokes.[:@] there is at least 10 of these at our field now they are a little like a spad as you can change em around easily. use schedule 40 1" pvc and it will be plenty strong.
