GP combat Spitfire
 
I just picked one of these up and was wondering if anyone has one or has flown one yet? I am planning on using a .25 FX and will just sport fly it. Not really interested in 2610 anymore. I may use this to try and generate some interest in a scale combat demo for our club's big warbird event at the end of the summer.

Well, I guess nobody yet has. My initial impression is very good. Everything is included and of high quality. The only thing I will not use are the EZ connectors on the servos. Too likely to fail.
I am still amazed at what we can get sometimes for so little money. IMO

I almost have her ready to fly. Just need to secure the radio, mount a switch and complete the aileron linkages. I will try to post a pic. If it is nice this weekend I am hoping for a test flight. I figure this thread will show some interest eventually.

Here are a few pics of my new 1\12th scale spitfire. This is a very nice airplane and I am confident it will fly very well. It really looks pretty cool. I should be able to report on the test flight on Sunday.

I ran the engine earlier and all seems to be well. At my altitude I always found a 9-5 APC to work well. The flat landers can get away with a 9-6 I think. I will leave this a sport setup as I will not be flying combat with it. Doing the test tomorrow.

Just back from the field. The Spitfire flies great. No trim, everything worked excellent. It is very sensative to the controls, so leave them conservative on the elevator. I was spot on the CG but had to add lead to do so. I think the RX battery needs to be moved back. I also used a heavy aluminum spinner. My all up weight was only 2.5 lbs. so I just lived with adding some lead to the tail.
All the way around this little plane is a pleasure and everyone at the field had great comments about it. I suppose someone will find some use from these posts whether anyone feels the need to chime in or not. I would really like to see an FW190 come out. I would be the first in line for that one.

Sounds good. I think most of the reports on the GP planes has been good with just a weak tail here or there.

Clean, Thanks for responding! I am beginning to think there is something wrong with this thread! Maybe I should have put it somewhere else.
Regaurdless of what this airplane is used for, (I know it is not a viable modern 2610 machine) it is a great little airplane.

its a good thing you didn't use the easy connectors, wished I hadn't used them on my p-40. The elevator pushrod pulled out on it's 6th flight. The plane went into a vertical dive and hit the ground at WOT. Total loss. I wont make that mistake again

Sorry to hear about your P40. I really wish the manufactures would not have builders use those things. You know, it would not be legal at a contest. In many events that type of termination is not allowed on a primary function like aileron and elevator.
It was very easy for me to mark and make a z bend. I was accurate enough to trim out the surface with my sub trim function.

I think it would have been a lot cooler if it would have been lost T-boning another plane! If you are going to lose them I think it is best when they are seeing action.

If I'm gonna go down I wanna take somebody out!

Put an Ultra Stick in with one of those darn things which is a shame because I lost my 2nd trainer with one of the stinkin things. Luckily it was a tank and I was able to rebuild. But that plane was heavy for a 40 and I had a Fox 25 pulling it around. Just barely did the job.

Then, I had them on throttles and thought, ehh, they don't get much load there. Well I tell ya, engines going to idle or WOT at odd times really tends to ruin your day.

Wow, I almost stacked the spit up today. I just got back from the field and my RX cut out. I got 3 pretty bad glitches and so I landed. I gave it a range check on the ground and the RX completely quit working! With the TX antenna fully extended even. My battery was still reading over 5 volts so that was not an issue. I am sure it is the filter or something. Off to Hitec along with all of my other broken radio stuff.

Been flying my GP Spit and Corsair for the past 6 months. Love them both. I left the gear off the Spitfire. When I maidened her, I had forgotten to set the ailerons so I adjusted them to match the Corsair. Big mistake. It was all I could do to get the plane back on the ground. Just bumping the stick to the right or the left and the plane would roll over. Fun times.

I did notice the ailerons and elevator are very sensative. It is certainly wise to set the throws conservative and use expo or dual rates.

Ya, I really should learn how to set up the dual rates on my Spektrum. Just cant spend the 30 seconds it will take to read it. I shot a touch and go with mine this weekend.
