engine for combat question
i have a .21 boat motor with a big ol head on it with a mousse can muffler i made for it, and it turns a 9x4 prop at real high rpms, somewhere in the low to mid 20000 rmp range, and was wondering if this would be suitable for a combat plane or would it be too heavy, or too much for a combat plane that has a 36" wingspan, and 32" long fuse, or should i go with a bigger combat plane???
any questions, comments, queries would be greatly appreciated THX ComBatman2k3 |

If you're used to flying a pocket rocket, I'd say go for it. Otherwise it may be more then you want for your first combat plane. Why did you come up with the 36" wingspan? Are you building a SPAD?

Sounds like a runable motor, assuming it holds together that way.
I agree that your wingspan seems small for that kind of power output, but if the plane is light enough, you might be ok. I do think you should get a longer wing though. |

i chose 36" wingspan because we have about 3 or 4 different foam wings laying about and wanted to use them the plane will be roughly 32" long, but i could always make a new wing for it, and maybye lengthen the fuse..but i like to keep combat planes short and small and fast...and no this one will not be a spad it will most likely be out of balsa and lite-ply, i made a simler combat plane out of this with an o.s. 25la on it and resempled an old mig fighter, it had a very long nose, and a turtle deck and was quite manuverable, but i had to make the elevator longer because it was doing the heeby-jeebies when i gave it full elevator, it also had a sheeted 36" foam wing..low wing...and was pretty quick.. :)

but i think that this .21 i have will be alright for it..im used to flying fast, manuverable combat planes, but i think it will be a little scary on landings, getting it airborn should be no trouble..i made a modified SPAD HOR with my .25, a 36" wing, and 32" long aluminum "L" channel fuse, i made it a mid-wing, and it really goes, but it has the problem of snapping coming out of a loop, but everything else is good with it..it is a very fun plane to fly and hope to enter some combat with it.. :D
