Streamers and stuff
What is the best material to use for streamers. Ive seen ppl using crepe paper at the strip..but they just disintergrate by them selves! How can i make..get hold of decent but cheap streamers?

HatTrick has THE best streamers.

I get my streamer material from walmart or target in the party section. Cut it in half with a band saw. Works great...

How about plastic streamer tape? Durable stuff. Have also seen guys use VHS video tape. Very light and cheap, and they reflect light quite well.

The problem with video tape is that it stays out there forever, so you have to go clean it up. Not that you shouldn't try to clean up all streamers, but the other stuff will eventually degrade.
Some guys like the forestry tape. I personally hate the stuff, but at least it will go away eventually, and it is water resistant compared to the paper. I do think the stuff from Hat Trick is the way to go. |
Reinforced Crepe Paper
My club uses 2 inch wide crepe paper with a 3/4" wide piece of masking tape running down the center of the streamer. They hold together pretty well. If you have a really fast plane you will loose about three to four feet during the flight. I made a simple hand crank machine that applies the tape right down the middle so adding the tape to a roll of crepe paper only takes about 5 minutes. In fact my club just had their Open Combat event today where we used these streamers in very hight winds.

Streamers and stuff
My club uses 2 inch wide crepe paper with a 3/4" wide piece of masking tape running down the center of the streamer. If you cut the streamer in half, you won't have any problems with it shredding. Leaving it full width, it has a problem supporting its own weight, but cut in half, its pretty tough and will not shred in all but the dampest, most humid days. That masking tape adds alot of weight to drag around.... and gets pretty expensive compared to half-width crepe paper... |
Good idea
My club may have to try that. I'm sure I can modify my streamer making machine with a blade instead of masking tape. I just hope our eyes can still see the streamers in the air.

John,
The 1/2 width crepe is pretty standard in the RC combat community, you won't have a problem... |
