Question for those going to the NATS...

Hey Combatants,

How many scale and/or open combat planes do you typically take with you to the NATS?

Question for those going to the NATS...

Dan,

This year I believe they are shooting for TEN rounds of scale and open B. This is the biggest event of the year and you should probably take at least one plane per round, if that is possible. If not, just take all you have and work to keep them flying. If you are going I would like to be the first one to wish you luck.

You going to the Nats Dan?

Taking one plane per round to a big contest is sound advice because one can never predict one's fortunes.

In 2001, I only took 3 RTF Scale planes to the Nats, plus 2 spare airframes. I never used the spares and came home with all 3 in flyable condition. :) This year for Scale, I'm taking 5 fuselages and 7 wings.

We'll see what happens...

See ya there Bob!

Good question

For 2002 I took the following:

Scale: 6 fuses and 6 wings, only used 2 fuses and 3 wings
OPEN: 6 wings and 4 fuses, only used 3 wings and 2 fuses

The above airframes were used for the next 4 months of combat.

This year I'm taking:

Scale: 3-4 fuses and 5 wings
OPEN: 5 wings, 3 fuses

It's a lot less stressful when you have extra planes, but remember 4-5 rounds per day will be the most flown in each class. That gives you all evening to make repairs if necessary...

Plus, extra planes can always be used for the rest of the season. I don't know about everyone else but the adrenaline is already starting to flow for the NATS... :D
