i would suggest getting some good fitting bearings instead of those bushings. looks pretty cool so far though.

RE: Homebuilt Nitro Dragster Railer
Thanks bro!
I was thinking about having a forced air induction pipe connected to the carb but don't know how well that would work.
You know, mount a tube to the air intake on carb and have it go to the front of the truck to an air dam so when the truck is running the air will be pushed to the carb instead of the carb sucking the air through the air filter. Would that not cause a leaner mixture?
Oh the possibilities!

When I fired her up yesterday, the clutch seems to have a high stall rate. Which is very good for drag racing.
It was kinda hard to hold the camera and give it gas with one finger.
More to follow!

RE: Homebuilt nitro drag truck
Well, it's been a long time since I have done anything else to the truck. But I did manage to start working on the brake system. I have to admit, the brake bands that is on the RJ Speed drag cars are crap. From my experience, they love to bend left and right if the linkage is not 100% perfectly straight. So I had to design a brake system for my RJ Speed kit and this truck. I just need to make the brake shoe for this truck. I will use either cork or jb weld for the brake's pad. I'm leaning more towards JB Weld.

OK, just got finished tonight. I'm charging the battery up now and should have a test run shortly. The only thing left is wheelie bars(if needed) and removing excess weight from the whole thing.
I will try this SH 12 first. If it doesn't have the umphhh I am looking for, I will swap it out with my spare XTM 18.

RE: Homebuilt nitro drag truck
OK I went out to my storage area to put away some things and decided to fire the truck up and drive it around. This thing screams!
I am still on the very rich side so I can't pull the front wheels off the ground from the start. But it does when the engine hits a certain rpm.
At the end of the run, I managed to hit a pole on the left rear and it bent the heck out of my rear axle. Just gotta make a new axle and she's back on the road.
I'll post the video as soon as it's finished.

OK, just got done making a set of aluminum hubs this weekend. They will be much easier to make when I get me a stink'n lathe. Cutting them on an endmill is hard on the back, neck, and butt......

Car looks good man. I like the idea but having the tank on the rear will keep the front end too light on a hard pass and you can steer it unless you add more weight to the front which then is adding unecessary weight. Even wheelie bars would keep the rear to where it can unload the tires with the tank back there.
For the air to carburetor idea, I cut a hole in my hood-scoop and put a tube from the scoop to the carburetor. In the photo I didn't have the fine wire mesh installed yet but I now have a wire mesh and it is for drag use ONLY.

RE: Homebuilt nitro drag truck
Thanks. I got the idea from my RJSpeed kit which also has the fuel tank in the back. I may end up putting the fuel tank up front like you said and see if it is more controllable.
I will also try the air tube to carb trick you did. Will the forced air cause it to run lean while flying down the track?
I just got done making the cylinder head out of 6061 aluminum. I did raise the compression a tad by lowering the glowplug .015" farther down in the cylinder. I am still using the two head shims though..

I can finally say this project is DONE!
I haven't tried the new head yet, but I'm sure it will do just fine, if not better..
