RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
:DI spoke with mark from parma and he stated there being used in straight line racing. though this forum isnt very old was hoping to swap idea's about this car, seems one could get in this at a very reasonable cost, tires and rims are one of my concerns, want to set mine up in bracket or prostreet form. jim

RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
builder jim,
Yea, THINK there was one running last race at Litespeed, San Antonio. Not sure, so didn't post earlier. Not much help. Sorry. Will confirm at Lampasas Race on June 30th. SAMDRL has yet to publish the results of the June 2nd race to its website. Thats the link we intend to post for you. Actual E.T. and Speed info. IF its the Parma 32, it spent a lot of time spinning on its lid through the speed traps. Could have been just a set-up glitch. Again, not 100% for certain. Talked with the guys running the coupe about the rails they were running. We didn't spent too much time talking about the coupe. They did mention that they feel its high speed handling issues were due to its' front steering. They intend to correct that by replacing the drag link with short turnbuckles direct off the servo to the steering knuckles. If you can hold off until June 30th, we'll get you definitve information. We don't want to cast a poor perfromance shadow over such a neat looking car. Parma makes a quality item. Again, not much help. Just holding back for better info - tires, motor, battery, ESC, etc. [link]http://www.rcfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15084[/link] //AC// |
RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
O.K, here's a link to the race report we've been waiting for:
[link]http://www.sadragracing.com/index_files/weekly/6_2_07_winners.htm[/link] Follow the left column - Combined Electric & Gas Bracket Eliminator - and check out E.T. and Speed for "Donny PM". This will give you a feel for how the car runs. We'll get specifics for you at June 30th race. Looks like Donny got the handling glitches worked out of the chassis. PM made some very consistent runs for first time out. We were busy thrashing in the pits, so didn't notice the improvements he made in performance. //AC// |
RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
THANK YOU AL, common sence tells me to get the GMS car but I love a challange, son"s and I started back into sedan racing when I hit QIUCK 1 with thought of drag car racing, wow what a monster I awoke,we talked quit a bit and he went with GMS, I went with the parma coupe. I ordered it friday, along with the 4200 bat pack. should have it around mid week. I check the site you spoke of and thats inpresive to me for the coupe"s run times and yes will hold off on any more parts ordering till I hear from you as to what works. want to build for the pro gas bracked class, electric 6 cell, walbern has the wheels , alu fronts and rears but will wait on donnys report. thanks again for time and input, JUST ENUF JIM

RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
well after reading the rules in imdra have decited that Ill run in super gas electric, going to use the parma coupe chassis being the under dog and all, plus I love a challange. going to wait on ahr43 recomadations on any changes though am going have to do some improvments with the steering, ways to much slop, know what to do there.[sm=71_71.gif]

RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
A lot of that crazy handling comes from not having the EPA adjusted properly. A lot of people set it like a touring car at first and that is way too much movement. A slower servo is a good idea as well. You don't steer them as much as 'lean' on them. Once they get really out of shape best thing to do is cut the throttle. I had the same problem when I first built a top fueler. Noticed someone testing out their steering before a run one afternoon and figured out I had about twice as much travel as you actually need. I've run every chassis out there and there isn't that much difference. Its all in the tuning and set-up. Getting one under 2 seconds used to be a long struggle. Now with the brushless and lipo combinations its much easier.

RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
THANKS GRIZ FOR JUMPING IN. EPA! END POINT ADJUSTMENTS.YEA THE OLDEST KINDA FIQUARED THAT ONE OUT, BUT TUNING AND SET UP? HUMMMM. AM GOING TO RUN HS 81 MINI SERVO WITH DUBRO BALL LINKS AND ASSOCATED TURN BUCKELS ON THE STOCK FROM PARMA FRONT END. REALLY HAS TAKEN THE SLOP OUT OF IT, RUNNING A4200 mah battery pack. RIGHT NOW WILL USE A 17 DOUBLE MOTOR WITH AROUND 26000 rpm on 1800 PACK, ESC AND DEANS ULTRA CONNECTORS, BATTERY LOCATED RIGHT IN FRONT OF MOTOR MOUNT. WANT TO RUN WALBERN RIMS AND TIRES AND MAYBE THERE 7 1/2 WHEELEE BAR BUT NOT SURE ITS NEEDED YET, ANY HELP IN ANY OF THIS WOULD BE GREAT!

RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
Yea you need a wheelie bar at least on all of them I've seen. That is another set-up adjustment you'll have to get right. I've seen a lot of fast cars with z bend wire for the front end that worked great. But I like a nice tight front end myself. Here is a pic of the way I did my pro mod steering. Its a little different than the usual way.
http://image.rcuniverse.com/gallery/.../lg-101087.jpg I'll be going to SA and Lampassas the next couple of weekends to video and take pics at the drag races here. I'll try and find out some more stuff from Donnie for you. Another thing is mount the servo with velcro and then put a tie around it to cinch it down. That way the vibration won't shake the diodes apart in the servo. The servo's last a lot longer that way. Griz |
RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
GRIZ, thank you for the servo info I'll use that one and in the pic is that a gms front axel and spindals, and who's front wheels?everything on yours looks nice am that way also much easier to look over and repair. I would really like to go there but cant be every where at once, and thank you for the thougt of getting info on donny's car. trying to convince the youngest to go the parma route but think he's going gms. tuning and set ups not sure what is meant as touring car tuning shocks, oil, springs, tires not sure about drag cars as set ups and tuning?

RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
Gearing, amount of Koford steering lock height of the wheelie bar etc are the set-up stuff for drag cars for the most part. It doesn't really matter what chassis you have they are all basically a board to mount the other stuff on. I've tried them all and they all work well. Getting the running gear to move smoothly is the biggest thing I think. I spend more time making sure everything is lined up perfectly and is very smooth and friction free. The wheels came from Walbern but I polished them. I too go for non-mainstream cars. That car had a OS .18TZ motor instead of a .21 and it did very well against the .21's. What I saw is the .21 guys having to make their clutches slip too much to keep the cars in control off the line. The race is won in the first 6 ft if the cars are pretty evenly matched so I decided to limit the power a bit to get a good slam start off the line. I don't know much about the electric side only had the one electric car and didn't like the idea of microswitches. Too easy to weld and destroy a car and the braking was basically non existant. However I think if I decide to get back into racing I'll go with the brushless lipo set-up cause I like speed. The program in SA is mostly bracket now with some index classes starting to pop up. I'm into heads up go as fast as you can racing so it didn't appeal to me. Health issues are another thing that has kept me out of actual competition lately. Now I go to the races and video. That chassis along with a sweet Willys body appeared in Hot Rod last Nov. As far as I can find out the only 1:10 R/C to ever appear on the pages of Hot Rod. The only other R/C's being 1/4 scale cars. Now I'm working on a nitro motorcycle that is almost finished. Here are a couple more shots of the chassis.
http://image.rcuniverse.com/gallery/...7/lg-62513.jpg http://image.rcuniverse.com/gallery/...7/lg-62512.jpg I always mirror polish all the alloy even the pulleys for the belt. The teeth even. Less friction. You'll find out drag racing is all about perfect preparation. Knowing your stuff and experimentation. Griz |
RE: Parma 32 ford chassis

RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
Hey Jim and all,
Donny and Joe didn't make the Lampasas race, so don't have any useful info for you. Reading the above posts to the thread, looks like you're making good progress on your own. Money race and IMDRA Division 4 points race this coming Saturday, the 7th. We'll pass this link on to Donny and Joe so they can make direct input if they so desire. Sorry you had to wait. Not much help. Please keep us updated on your progress and mods. Super Gas is one double-tough class. You're really jumping in with both feet. Best of luck. //AC// |
RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
A/C, thank you thinking of me, but have ran into a snag on the chassie. need a new mtr and axel mount, butched mine up and parma doesnt sell parts. thinking all of this over. jim

ORIGINAL: JUST ENUF A/C, thank you thinking of me, but have ran into a snag on the chassie. need a new mtr and axel mount, butched mine up and parma doesnt sell parts. thinking all of this over. jim Ouch! That hurts. Having access to replacement parts that fit and quickly is vital in RC drag racing. Good to know though. FYI, 'sixshootertexan' - here in Houston - has machined a lot of parts for his electric bracket Mustang. He's a CNC machinist, but not sure if he's doing job work. If decide to stay with the Parma, let me know, we'll find out for you. This might be time to consider moving on to a more drag-specific chassis, like GMS or Walbern, instead of trying to fix what you have. Not trying to tell you what to do, but we sunk a ton of $$$ in converting a Traxxas Electric Rustler into a bracket truck as our first drag racing project. Had it to do all over again, we wouldn't. We could have built two, maybe three GMS or Walberns for what we put into that Rustler. One of kind, though. Anyway, know you'll do what works best for you. Hope you stay with RC drag racing. //AC// |
RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
A/C, kinda fiquared out too stay with what you can get parts for, road racer or quick one, my oldest son which ever he is this week has the grand moter sports chassie, Ive ordered the pro stock chassie from walbern, paul is good at keeping a new person straight on what go's and what wont, will be here in three weeks, can use all the conversion parts for the parma on his frame as they came from him, thanks for the reply. jim

RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
:eek:WELL, am back to the parma thing, due to things, decited to stick with it. building lite weight drag bars but have a question, how far off the ground are the wheels? am thinking 1/16 or less maybe even touching. Id like a little show boating but need to win also. jim

Id like a little show boating but need to win also. jim At present we are not using a wheelie bar/drag bar on the R2E. We didn't use one in the latter stages of the R1E either. Once we got the weight where we wanted it, we didn't need it. HOWEVER, it may be prudent to start with one before you arrive at your desired weight balance. Again, we recommend a two wheel/two bar. 60/40 works for us. We're at 62/38 on the R2E now. Hope this helps. //AC// |
RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
ALL this info helps and have made up a set of wheelie bars that are light weight and have about a 3 1/2in spread and there adjustable in height settings, will start with 1/8. between you and griz you both are great at setting new people straight, working on spur gear attachment now, wish they were lock down types with a set screw but the one ones from richman are bolt on and am having clearance issue's, will work this out with some thought. am running a 17 turn double w/ 4200 mah pack with 28 pinion and 60 tooth spur, have pinions up to 35, hitec 81 servo mounted up front? looking at that 60 40 factor. better go, jim

RE: Parma 32 ford chassis
finished up the wheelie bars, there 7 in long and run two wheels and there 1/8 in off the ground. they can easley removed and iam believing if the car is 60/40 balanced then they wont be needed.
