Default Custom Delrin drifting tires

First off,Much respect to the proper setup for drifting without cheating.....but I decided to cheat to try both ways and had a set of Delrin tires made to fit my rims.I'll get some pics up when I get home so everyone can see what they look like, might not be much different than just black ABS but I don't know.I drew em up so there was barely any sidewall so they look like super low profile tires, now I just have to get some rough edges off and CA them to the rims and I'll let ya know what happens...pics in 3 hours!!! YAY,lol.

nice!!!..delrin is awesome material...did you use black or are they white/clear?..ive never tried the cheater way but id like to give it a try some day..just to see how diffrent it is from rubber tires..id like to see pics of the delrin cheater's..did you cut any grooves into them for tread or are they like slick's?..it would be cool to have them with groove's cut into em so they look kinda like the advan A048's

Hey,I didn't cut any grooves in them but I could go back and do it if I need to...I was thinkin though ,if there were grooves there'd be even less contact area so I didn't do it,they're like slicks.I do need to round the edges a little though so I don't catch a high spot or something and flip it.I'm gonna slam the car too..make the rear shocks really stiff and I may just try to make a front shock tower with higher mounting points to drop the front.I can't wait to go try this out tomarrow,I'm sure it will be cool.I'm gonna tune it up normally and drive then I'll set it up (with rubber) and try it that way before I go with the cheaters just to cover both ways. When I put the Delrin on I'm gonna put it on the back only to see what happens, then try it on the front too.Hopefully it doesn't wear away too fast,I'm not sure of Delrins ability to stand up to asphalt but it seems like it should...then again I thought gluing sandpaper to the calipers for the original plastic brake disc was a good idea too so,maybe not.Heres a few pics,I'll get more when I take it out tomarrow if I get a chance.

Ok...no luck on trying them out yet but they're all mounted on the rims and ready to go.

Yes, I meant where did you get the delrin tube stock. Some specialty materials store by you or off the net or along those lines?

As for the body...that Eclipse body is "thick",meaning when the chassis is flat on the ground,so is the body.I has to be that high to run on the rough ass parking lots around here and not just scrape the body all the time.I have to cut the wheel wells lower on the next one to get it to look right. My Trans Am body sits alot lower but it scrapes the ground pretty much constantly...which would be a good way to save the chassis maybe but its annoying to drive like that.

As for the delrin,it may not work well so let me find out before you go ordering any. Also, these had to be machined to size inside and out,you cant just hacksaw a 1" section off.If they work well and you end up wanting some I can try to have another set made and ship them to you but I'll see if they work first.

galaxy- you definatly need to round the outside edge of those delrin tires...it would give them a more realistic look and it would help the slide process...they definatly look cool though..id be interested in a set of them..but im waiting to see how they do and how they hold up on pavment..

Yeah,If I had made em they'd be rounded already but I had another guy at the shop do it and I just said screw it and put em on the rims.I figure they'll round themselves out once I start driving on em but I may take a file or something to em first, belt sander maybe.I 've been trying to go run but just haven't had the chance yet...I was gonna go last night but I got talked into installing a stereo so that didn't happen.I kinda belong to a DSM (talon, eclipse, laser, galant) group here and one of the guys saw a little rc drifting video on the net and got all exited so I may go to the parking lot they meet at tomarrow and drift it around with the Eclipse body.

Ok,I finally got some more fuel and had a chance to go drive the car this morning. Once I got it tuned pretty good I put the delrin tires on the back just to see what it would do and it just did donuts till one of the tires came off...then I couldn't put all 4 on to see 'cause I forgot my glue here. From what it did I'm guessin its gonna be way too slick of a material to actually have much control and I actually was doin pretty good on the rubber tires I have in the pic above.
