RE: Rc Drift cars
first of all, belt is not better than shaft for drifting, and is not more durable. I shaft wont strech like a belt will, and a belt you might have to replace if it is streched, and on top of that, a good aluminum shaft will provide a much better response off the line...
Next, there are tonnsss of good cars, if u want a high end car get a yokomo, if u want a good car for a good price get a tt-01, or something like that. Kits are good becuase u can choose your electronics, and maybe save a little money. Idk if uve had any experience with rc cars, but if your new to this, u might not want to get a kit, becuase u will have to build it, which could get tricky.
Any electronics are fine, get a high speed servo though, and make sure to use an esc, and not a rotary speed control that comes in tamiya kits. When u get a motor, get something will higher turns if your new, becuase it will be easier to control, but if uve been into this before, than just make sure not to get anything too low, because your not really gonna need it.
Any tc body will do, and for tires, u can get specialty drift tires, or make your own using a set of rims and 2"pvc or abs piping to get u going sideways.
Good luck

RE: Rc Drift cars
you dont necessarily need a high speed servo. a standard one works fine for drifting. but yeah all that other stuff mentioned is good. ESC and such. id suggest the Futaba controller with the ESC combo good deal.

RE: Rc Drift cars
i use a RTR TC3 and it works fine. dont listen to the guess telling you to spend a boat load of money. you dont need to. you can get the TC3 RTR for about $220. i am in love with mine. over time i have made some major mods to it so its not the same car. but it is a GREAT drifter.

RE: Rc Drift cars
no. i think the SSG is decent. imo the yokomo drift kit is a super downgraded version of their Touring cars. the high end cars i think shouldnt be used for drifting because in drifting you still crash i feel a bit more than grip racing.

RE: Rc Drift cars
btw, i said a high speed servo, because im running a standard servo, and im not getting a fast enough reaction time to give my car a good flick, but i guess if u have a good radio it wouldnt be a problem, im using an old traxxas tq3, haha, it sucks.

RE: Rc Drift cars
Who says shaft is best for drifting pffttt, I have 2 belt cars (TA03F, Losi Street Weapon) and 1 shaft (TC3) and the belt is waaaay better
The TA03F is supposed to be the perfect drifter (being re-released as a drift spec car too!) but I'd say the STW is even better

RE: Rc Drift cars
ok get the tc 4 rtr. just a new tc3.
uhh upgrades are good but not really needed.
as for tires you need plastic pipe called pvc or abs. (call your local hardware store to check availibility) (or check you local plumbers)
you use that to put on a bare rim. or ontop of tire.
all rims fit but get a car wheel not stadium truck. if you want a body make sure its 190 mm

Don't use PVC, don't use PVC, don't use PVC.....etc.
ABS is much better and is what the dudes in the SG vids use (thin wall grey ABS)

RE: Rc Drift cars
Trust me. Getting a beginner car is a must if you're new to the hobby.
I HIGHLY suggest the TL-01 or the TT-01. Go get the RTR version of either of those on Ebay or somewhere else. Also, don't take these beginner cars as "sucky" because they don't suck, and if you were to work with like a TC4 or a Pro 4 from the start, you'd probably totally f*** up.
