Default HOW TO WATER DIP A NEW MOTOR!! 10 Step Guide

Ok, here is a quick guide i made up for running in a motor using the Water Dip method;

What you will need;

Motor - DUH!!!
Plastic/Glass Container
Dishwashing Liquid
2 AA/D/C Size Batteries
Tape
Water (warmish)

Ok now lets start,

Step 1

If the motor is mounted in the car, remove it including Pinion gear (needs to not be under any load)

Step 5

Connect the terminals to the battery, at this point make sure the motor will spin the same way as in your car, this allows proper bed in, the motor will be spinning, quickly drop in the water(if you go to slow it will spew water everywhere...lol)

Step 6, let it run fully submerged in the water( incl where the wires connect to the motor poles) for the life of the battery (DO NOT SUBMERGE THE BATTERIES IN THE WATER, this will cause a short)

Step 7

Once batteries are flat ( the water should be a horrible black colour)remove the motor and place on a rag or in Trent's case some tissues (clean ones)

Run it for 30 secs or so to get rid of most of the water, let it dry properly

Step 8

Get some WD40 or Contact cleaner or simalar electrical lube and spray a small amopunt in the can, not to much as it will spray and leak everywhere.

Step 9

Re mount back in the car

Step 10

Drift and enjoy knowing your motor is properly run in

Cheers

Just curious, what is the goal in doing this? I've only breifly read about this, and I was just wondering what it does to the motor that improves its performance. Also nice guide

Thanks.

yeah its runs the motor in properly, you will find the motor goes alot better after doing this, i used to do it on all my brushed motors for my planes and they wer so much quicker, no need with brushless.

My car goes alot better after this.

from what I hear you dont need to fully submerge the motor in the water ( I would feel alot safer with this)

To answer the questions, Water Dipping basically breaks in the motor. It cleans all of the dirt and grim off of the Comm and reseats the brushes onto the comm, which creates a better connection which increases speed. This only works if you FULLY dip the whole motor in the water, the water will not harm it at all.
