New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
Hey all!!
Ofna is releasing a new drift chassis at an affordable price! It's the JL10e Drift! It comes as a "roller", but is mid-motor (much like the first Losi JRXS- not the JRXS-R), and unlike the original JL10e, is now belt-drive! Here's a link for all those interested: http://www.ofna.com/jl10e-drift.php Just caught sight of it this morning, and it looks like a good kit! Another candidate for CS? UPDATE! Tower will be selling this chassis for $99.99!!!! Order is pending, so it should be in, in time for Christmas!! |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
NEWUPDATE!
Horizon Hobby is selling the Ofna JL10e on backorder (will be available 2nd week of December) for $89.99!! Check it out here: http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...rodID=OFN34722 I've ordered mine!! :D |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
Well, it seems Horizon has raised the price.
All those who ordered before the hike will be happy. Those who have not, shop around, to find a good deal. The chassis is due out in a few days, and by all accounts, will sell out as soon as it does! |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
Do you think this would be a good candidate for a drift/rally mix?
|
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
For drift, absolutely! It is a replication of the Losi JRX-S, which is, by all those who have drifted it, a great platform.
For Rally, I suppose as long as it's kept to "pavement stage" rally, it would be a good candidate. I'm even thinking it would rival the Traxxas rally, with a high-power ESC/motor combo (I just can't do Traxxas, as their scales are so out-of-whack, it would look weird beside my 1/10th scale cars), could do "Gymkhana" type stuff as well as the Traxxas rally. Put HPI A-drifts (or other comparable rubber tires) on it, and I can't see why not! :D |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
ORIGINAL: ThEoNeS911 Do you think this would be a good candidate for a drift/rally mix? After taking stock of my parts, I can make the Ofna Drift a Gymkhana car! All I need do is order the correct body for it. I wouldn't have even given it thought, had it not been for your question!! Thanks, dude! :D |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
UPDATE:
Well folks, it seems the release of the drift chassis has been pushed back to january. Seems Associated isn't the only company trying to catch up to Christmas!! :( |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
Well, got the chassis, and a few observations:
The chassis is "cobby" in execution. It is also made by Hong Nor, which may be a turn-off to some, but the parts are pretty high quality. The adjustments for the pillow ball suspension, as well as the toe and camber settings were all out-of-whack, and should be addressed. Other than my replacing the Phillips hardware for Allenheads, the chassis is coming together quite easily. Though this chassis is touted as easy to build and run, set ups will need to be made, so I cannot recommend this chassis to the beginning builder. For those seasoned in building, it will be a fun basher, and should prove to be a good Gymkhana Rally, what Iintend to build this chassis as...........:D |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
UPDATE!!
The chassis is (depending on the components used) absolute 50/50 weight balance! If the ESC, receiver are kept ahead of the motor, no weights to "center" balance are required. This chassis, though not a beauty contest winner, keeps impressing! Ofna did it's homework with this one. :) |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
Here are pics of the Ofna Drift:
http://s974.photobucket.com/albums/a...ally-Gymkhana/ The chassis still has the stock wheels and tires, which I will see whether they hold up for drift/gymkhana or not. The chassis also sits high for gymkhana. The body has no paint yet, will post pics when it is finished! :) EDIT: The battery is solidly mounted in the pics, with velcro, which is why you don't see any straps or cage for the battery. The velcro system is lighter, too! :) |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
gokemidoro what is this chassis going for again? $$$
|
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
As it turns out, the pre-orders were delivered at those pricesI quoted earlier ($89.99-$99.99), but the new batch is going for $124.99.
At least that is what Horizon and Tower are asking at the moment. I'm not sure if anyone is asking less, but it's worth a shot to try, as this chassis isn't bad, even for $124.99!! :) |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
kstmRYD,
BTW, if you are contemplating one, the rear diff needs to be locked, and though they are sealed, neither diff has fluid in them. I'm going online to check for option parts, but for the time being, I filled the front with 100,000 wt. diff oil. Seems to work O.K. |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
Here is my new Gymkhana:
http://s974.photobucket.com/albums/a...ally-Gymkhana/ No, no lights yet. Besides, who needs lights with a paint job THAT loud?! :D |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
nice looking paint job, a lot of masking but worth the work, looks great!
|
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
Thank you , sir!
I took it out for a spin this AM, and was attempting to drive it Gymkhana-style (that's what I built it to do, after all), and it's a good platform for it, definitely!! :D It drifts wide sweepers, can pivot on it's front wheels, and everything in between. I only drove it for one battery pack, but for such an el-Cheapo chassis, it reacts well to inputs, and with the pillow-ball suspension, willwithstand side impacts (and there will be some, with this chassis!) much better than the standard TC chassis! I think rubber tires are the only choice for it, because drift tires won't get it up to the speeds it needs to gymkhana, but it sure is a nice-handling chassis for the money!! :D |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
ami=ain has it for 114 plua 5 dollar coupon so 109
|
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
Good to know.....
You ought to get one, if you're interested at all in Gymkhana! Even at $125, it's a better chassis than that mutant rally Traxxas is putting out. Drives better, in my view, too! :D |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
I might get one around april so you wont be all alone:D
|
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
If you want, let me know when you do. I have set ups for it, to make it a better performer.
An adjustable TX would help too, but it's not necessary. |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
Update:
For anyone interested in this chassis, adjust the suspension with a generous amount of "sag" before mounting the body, so the wheel wells fit correctly over the wheels. The chassis seems to work better with a bit of "sway" in it, especially when using rubber drift tires. Since I've tuned mine to work at a much higher speed than a standard drifter, the sway makes transitions more controllable with "0" camber. Forget the Traxxas rally......This thing outperforms it so well, why would anyone waste money on the Traxxas model? :) |
RE: New Ofna Drift Chassis!!
The last reply on this thread was my birthday last year, and I got this chassis for my birthday this year.. In the past year has anyone built one? After discounts from tower this car is right at 100 bucks with free shipping.. Like no money for a chassis.. Anybody have any advice for me on my birthday build? And don't say buy a tc4 or something, I already have one lol.. It has another job....
