Problem with drift car

i just got a 1/10 drift car a couple week back and i have some problems. when i use it for a minute or so it will just stop. the steering works but the throttle does not. I barely know anything about these cars so i have no idea whats wrong. Can anybody help?

P.S.
I also have stock settings(stock brushes 3300kv motor, stock ESC, and stock 8.4v nimh 3000mah battery)<br type="_moz" />

Sounds like a problem with your ESC to me.

"use it a minute or so it will just stop" - does it start again?

Check the motor first.....

you mentioned stock brushes, if your brushes loose contact with the commutator the motor will stop. To test for bad brushes or jammed brushes grab the brushes by the lead wire and pull back, make sure they slide freely in their housing up and down and that the spring is exerting enough pressure to keep them seated on the commutator, now turn the motor by hand a few times make sure the brushes are seated on the commutator and all brush connections are ok. Now turn on your ESC and try giving it throttle again. If nothing happens you can connect a battery directly to the motor to see if it will spin, if nothing happens with direct battery juice to the motor your problem is in the motor/brushes not the ESC.

To check the ESC.....

Don't chuck out the ESC without testing it, if you have a voltmeter you can check and see if you are getting juice to the motor at the ESC leads that go out to the motor. Hook up a voltmeter to the ESC leads as mentioned, as you give it full throttle you should get full battery voltage, so if your battery is charged and is putting out 7.2 volts your ESC leads at full throttle should read 7.2 volts, if you get full battery voltage, most likely your ESC is good. The time to test it is when it is not running, at the moment the motor doesn't run check the voltage at the ESC if you have none then the ESC is cutting out.

Don't guess at anything, check stuff, learn to diagnose and you will save money instead of replacing parts blindly.

Good luck!

yeh it might be my esc, it stops working and a red flossing lights appears at the bottom of my esc. Also if I turn it off and on it runs fine.

What brand are your motor and ESC? What chassis are you running? Just out of interest but it may also help diagnose the fault.

I didn't know brushed motors had a kV rating? I thought that was for brushless.

it is actually brushes, i just made a typo in my first post all of the stats are here :http://www.exceedrc.com/brveexrcdrst.html<div>
</div><div>I don't know what brand motor it is. All I know is that it is 3300kv. I looked on the esc and all it says is s10 rtr. No amp rating.</div><div>
</div><div>I only stops working when i use full throttle for about 30 seconds. when i do that, the throttle just stops but the steering works fine. and as i said that esc flashes red.</div><div>

your voltage is being dropped below whatever voltage your ESC requires. Its probably going into LiPo cut off. Try and provoke it, and watch any signal lights it might have.

If thats the case, i would first look for bad solders, they can cause voltage drops like those. If that fails, slap another, bigger capacitor on the ESC. Thats what i had to do to fix my novak, same issue different story.

QFT. My EZRun ESC flashes red on/off when I hit LiPo cutoff and chances are they're the same thing different label, my motor is a 13T 3300Kv too, does yours have heatsink style fins as a part of the casing?

^^ That's what I was thinking :)
