Is it out of the question to ask for a Drift Car in the $50 range? I see many listed. Is there one worth buying. Not to compete with. Just for play.

I don't think that your going to find one for that price man. unless it's a toy rc. for a little more than 150 you can find some good starter drift cars.

I think you are correct. I have spent many hours searching the web now. Everything is junk.
But I did find one that looks promissing. The Hobbyking Mission D sells for $80 and needs a Radio system another $30 and battery, another $20. It is light duty but performs well from the reviews I have read. It is a clone of the Yokomo DRB that is more expensive and stronger built.
So many Hobby's die off after a short time and spending a lot of money on the first shot may be a waste. If this new Hobby looks like something to persue, then all the better parts from Yokomo DRB are easy upgrades. Brushless motors, aluminum axles and differential all would make a better Drifter but the geometry and performance is there now with the plastic parts. Just don't slam the curb.

I have my first RC Drift Car. Thanks to many Forum members answering questions for me, I purchased an Exceed Madspeed Drift King RTR for $109. I bought and installed a locked rear diff. and a one way front diff. I traded the original 190 mm body for a C6 Corvette body that is 200 mm and installed 6mm offset 5 degree wheels to fit the wider body style. I painted the car to resemble my real C6 Grand Sport. The only problem I had was my spray can nozzle went wild in the middle of the painting spitting out large gobs looking more like undercoat than paint.
So I gave up on making it real nice and figure I will be crashing a bit in the beginning. This will be my trainer body for now and later I can finish a real nice replacement.
I really like the way it handles and it appears this is something I can do. It is always fun to try new things. My RC Helicopter skills really suck. They look nice hanging from my ceiling.

looks good Rocket-J. i see them shiny new brake rotors in there. now you can make some led wheels.
the paint flaws aren't easily seen but being the first body i will get some scratches at least. most paint the body from the inside but if it's bad or you don't like it you can always paint the outside. you gotta start some where but it looks good to me.
having a FOW is a bit of a learning curve but it's cool to have something like a e-brake on a drift rc. have fun with it and practice often. at first it seems like it can't be done but then when you start to link the drift from one corner to the next the excitement builds.

It drifts very well. I am not finding a great learning curve here at all, but I am not on a closed course either. Drifting a figure eight is easy.
Yes, I did paint on the inside. I am very experienced with painting clear model bodies but I can't tell you how bad this spray nozzle was.
The only choice was to try to clean all the paint out of the body or just leave it alone. This will be a body I don't have to worry about.

I removed my "one way" front diff. I think the best combination is a locked rear diff. and the stock front diff. Maybe when I get better, the one way will feel comfortable.
For those who want to know, my original NiMH 2000 mah batteries last exactly 20 minute at full throttle, wheels spinning and sideways. The motor is only slightly warm to the touch.
The only thing negative so far is my tires are wearing very fast on asphalt. Today I went to a tennis court and had a lot more fun with less tire wear.
I think I will stock up on some more drift tires.
What are you guys using for glue on the tires and rims? Does it come off okay? Please share your method for tire replacement.
