PVC & ABS
could somebody kindly tell me the differences between pvc & abs.
what are the advantages & disadvantages of pvc and also abs. thanx |

They are both basically the same. The only difference is PVC is white and ABS is black. ABS is said to give a TINY bit more traction but from my experience they are both the same.

yeah my friend has abs on his, coincedently, Mugen NSX TL-01 and my tl-01 has pvc, he gets off the line a little faster(both Trinity monster stocks)

Frozen, you're wrong, ABS is a Styrene, PVC is a Vinyl, both are different
ABS is indeed softer and offers higher traction/higher wear Colour is irrelevant! - I use grey ABS, I've worked with blue ABS and seen the white ABS, PVC can be black, red, or other colour, the colour doesn't tell you what it is - the printing on it does though ;) |

ABS is styrene (said before). That means when it is made they is bunch of little air bubbles mix in, which means it is lighter and more expensive.

blakka, it doesn't really matter which you get they both work great, the difference is very minimal(performance wise) but people tend to use Black ABS because it looks closer to real tire

ABS looks much better.
It is softer therefore giving more traction. It wears quicker. No pluses of PVC. You have practically no control with it. |

PVC is way cooler than ABS (in my oppinion), Plus you can now get them in black! ABS is still kool but with PVC you can hold Longer drifts

ABS is available in black... i have black ABS on my TC3 right now o.O
I can hold long drifts great, but transitioning from one drift to the next is difficult. Then again, I have the same problem in my 1:1 car so I blame the driver mostly :p |

One other thing to consider in your choice of PVC vs. ABS is the surface you will run on. I use PVC, but that's because I've been unable to find ABS at three local hardware stores. The asfault outside my apartment is very coarse. After a run the tires are rough. I went drifting at a parking lot last night where the pavement is smoother. I had a noticable amount less traction making it harder to control than I'm used to. The tires almost had a smooth polished feel after the run. Take a look at where you're going to be drifting. If it looks pretty smooth, you may want ABS... if it looks rough, you may want PVC. I'm already thinking about buying an extra set of wheels so I can have PVC and ABS drift tires.

why do you HAVE to glue ur tires onto the rims.. whataout when ur tires abs or pvc tires wear out? u ahve to replace the rim too? and are wheels fairly simple to change? can u do it in like 5 mins? or do u have to change them ahead of time because u have to take many things apart? imt hining of either geting a Hpi Spring, Rally, or TL-01.

1. just stick a few dabs of hot glue on the bead of the rim and slip the ABS/ PVC on. to get it off, just push... hard. it's better than the tire falling off during a drift (although that IS kinda cool looking... the first 3 to 10 times).
2. the other option is to make a tighter fit by wrapping electrical tape around the rim. 3. you'll find out how easy it is to change a wheel when you get a car. i can only describe it in less than one word. |

but the difficulty to get those rims on.. wouldnt the hot glue drie by then? what about some rims.. taht have a groove on the outer side... so thats its in a shape like |______| couldnt i some how squeeeze that pvc or abs tube between those things so taht they hold it on? or will it be impossible to hold them on?

I have a photo tutorial on making a set of ABS/PVC drift tyres, the wheel is bigger than the inside diameter of the pipe (about 1mm) but if you put the wheel in right it will go in - very tight
Tight as the fit is, the pipe does slide off slightly exposing the rim of the wheel, so one SMALL dab of superglue/cyano (not hot glue) is just enough to keep it in place When the pipe wears down to the rim, it'll only be 1mm thick so it's easy to cut into with a knife, then just rip it off A file is all that is needed to get rid of the blob of hard glue Make another set with the same wheels ...job done ;) |
