RE: how to drift
I am currently writing a book for Wiley and Sons, it's titled: Searching RCUNIVERSE.COM for Dummies
Here's a quick excerpt of chapter 1 page 1: In today's complicated society there's highly technical features being implemented in web pages and forums all over the WWW. One feature commonly implemented but almost never used is the search feature. Why isn't it being used you ask? That is a great question of our time. One may think it is too difficult to type in a simple term and press a button. Maybe they feel like they should waste space in the database for another post. We can only guess the thinking of those not using the search feature. |

I don't bash everyone, just people who ask the same questions that have been asked 100 times over, you might be to 'young' to know what's been asked over and over. I'll agree with the F&F fad statement though...

I'll agree with the F&F fad statement though... but, at the same time, its just easier to tell someone what they need and give them advice, at least for me. i also dont know how this forum is. i feel like i'm censored here alot so i have to really think about what i'm about to say in fear of getting banned:D i can bash people all day long on fordpower.net and they laugh it off...but i've also been posting there for 3 years so they dont take me serious since i'm a "veteran" but yeah, your right dev...search function is a basic skill and courteous when you step into a forum |

RE: how to drift
Minor correction: ABS is the pipe of choice. ABS is a softer compound, comes in black, and costs the same. As for drift ring set-ups, they're pretty worthless unless your LHS stocks drift rings for next to nothing. The rings fall off, wear out, and don't look like a natural tire. [8D]

RE: how to drift
how do you even put the drift rings on? would i need to get new rims and tires to fit them?
|
RE: how to drift
I don't recommend the drift rings, but if you're hell bent on them all you need is 4 yokomo drift tires, they come with the rings, and several spare sets of rings to have with you. Putting the rings on the tires is as easy as that, you slip the ring onto the tire untill it matches up with the groove in the tire.

Yokomo drift rings product link: [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGMW0&P=ML]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGMW0&P=ML[/link] Have plenty of these on hand. As you can see, the price for these products is rather expensive and what fun you get out of them is short lived. That's why most people prefer other drift tire solutions. Drift Specialties drift tire product link: [link=http://www.driftspecialties.com]http://www.driftspecialties.com[/link] Comparing the price and quantity shows that the later is a far better deal. Either solution uses any 26mm or 24mm wheels for 10th scale touring cars. |
RE: how to drift
is it just PVC or ABS over the rim without nay tire over that? becasue doesnt it scratch or like not really have any tractiion at all if its just bare?
|
RE: how to drift
That's correct, just wheels & 'wraps' of plastic. It does scratch, but that's not a problem. They last forever, my car has over 50 runs on a set and still has about 50% life left. Traction or the lack thereof is the problem and I have been experimenting with several ways to create a 'hybrid' tire, you can read up on one of my experiments here: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/New_%27HYBRID%27_drift_tire_set%2Dup%21/m_2766080/tm.htm]"HYBRID" Tires...[/link]

RE: how to drift
Some of the questions answered here are on my "10 Questions about drifting" thread, go on that for alternative answers. Maybe someone should make a thread which is just a definitive gide to drifting tyres. Saying how you fit ABS tires and also about the Yokomo drift tyres...

RE: how to drift
Maybe the experienced "drifters" here can all come together and form a guide of all sorts. Outlining all the equipment, terms, and whatever else seems important. Then we could request a mod sticky it or something. It would save many people the work of answering, or in my case, not answering their questions. Let me hear a yay or nay on this idea and we can get started a.s.a.p. [sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: how to drift
yay. Would be a very good idea. You could call it "DRIFTING FOR DUMMIES". Catchy.
