Yokomo D1 Drift Kit
I really want to get into R/c drifting, and I was thinking about buying this car:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXJDB9&P=ML Is this a good choice, or is there a better car I should get. If I should get this car, do you have any suggestions on what motor/ ESC to get? Thanks |

You would be better off with a Team Associated TC3/4 and Yokomo body set. You would get a better car, spend less and have support for products when they break.

dEmOnPeDe56 I use a RTR TC3 for drifting and it works excelently. so far no probs. im even thinkin about getting a brushless motor for it. her is a pic of my car. if you have any questions about it plz feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions. and if you dont get a team associated vehicle i recomend a TL-01. my friend has one and everytime i ask him about it he says it is a great car.

can u drift with a 4wd car, or does it have to be rear?

The car should be 4wd. If it is not then it is really hard to controll the slides. you just end up spinning out every time, in fact its almost impossible. If the car is 2wd and you fancy giving it a go then it would have to be rear wd, front wheel drive would just understeer all over the place with drift tyres. If you have a rwd car then you got nothing to loose, slap some electrical tape on your tyres and give it a go:D

yup it is. i have to say that it is a great drifter... the only problem is my ESC... i am using an ESC from one of my other cars and it is limmiting the power to the motor :( so im gonna gre a Novak Brushless Motor System, im getting the Super Sport SS5800 really soon. hopefully by the end of the summer. when i get it ill let everyone know how i like it :). And dEmOnPeDe56 save your money and get a TC3 or TC4 i swear you wont be dissapointed! i have to say out of 2 cars that are running, i cant seem to stop driving my TC3 :)

get the .18ss..electric is weak sauce..im using a .12 ss to drift on foams and x-patterns..i have no problems..the yokomo drift kits are lame..soon im gonna be getting a new motor..either .15 or .18..dunno yet

maybe you should re-read my last post..i think you confused yourself....im saying get a .18 ss because electric is lame..im using a .12 ss and will soon be upgrading to the .18 ss motor and cvd's and driveshafts, and diff gears

I'm trying to decide between a TC4 and Hot Bodies Cyclone S. Which do you guys think is better?
Also, for the HPI Nitro RS4 3 Evo+, do you really need to drift chasis kit to drift with it? |

you dont need the drift spec chassis to drift with it. im using the nitro rs4 12ss and wit tires im doing just fine. 2 of my friends have the RTR Rs4 3.0 evo+ aare doing all the same things that i am. we are also working on rear exit exhaust and an intake kit that puts the filter right behind the front bumper of the car.

Wow. Totally redirected. So, between the Yokomo and TC4, if you're ordering online in the first place, get the Yokomo. It's a better car. I have a TC4 and it's true, you will have LHS support when it breaks...cuz it's gonna break. I also have a Yokomo...which hasn't broken YET!! And I've had it longer. BOTH do circuit racing and BOTH drift. The only diff is the TC4 breaks and the Yok doesn't.
And what's with all this Yoko-hatin. Out of the box, the MR4TC is THE EASIEST chassis to drift with HANDS DOWN. All you need is you. No hop-ups. No spare parts. No other goobley-gop. No stiffening nothing. Hook it up, turn it on, and start drifting. That's it. And, it's the ONLY chassis I know of that comes as a kit that doesn't require you to hop it up or lock something as soon as you get. If you can't handle a Yokomo, you probably shouldn't be on the track. However, it IS expensive, I'll give it that. But, it's also the most popular chassis in the land where all this started and one of the most popular chassis for those that actually do this in competition. That's not to say you can't win with anything else, cuz you can. The MOST important thing is practice practice practice. But all this Yok is crap CRAP is just...well...CRAP. The RTD Kit is good out the box with NO-HOP-UPS and in Japan RC Drift events and major drift events state side, it's the top dog. So I'm not sure which hole you guys are pulling your info out of, but put it back in said hole. Of course, that could just be your personal opinion of the car (for some unknown reason), in which case, you're entitled to that. Now, being that you're considering the darkside of drift, mouser, if you get a Nitro, one, you won't be able to get into any comps..that may not matter to you. I have yet to meet a nitro drifter that can drift tight and cocisely. Long sweeps get boring after a while (to me). Hmm..I think that's all I have to say. OH, and I hope you're not getting a nitro for speed, cuz, a) you don't need a bunch of speed in drifting and b) a elec can be just as fast (if not faster) with proper motors. Other than that, have fun with whatever you buy. |
