Hello
I'm not a drifter, (well not in that sense anyway) but I figure you guys go through enough tyres to be able to answer this.
i want to remove tyres which I superglued to the rims as per insructions. Now, I was young and innocent, and used lots of glue. Whats a good solvent to break down the bond and allow me to take off the tyres?
I have tried WD-40, which works when taking superglue off cows (Long story), but without much success. So I was hoping you rubber burners could help!

well i dont know what would be good for taking tyres off the rim but i think asatone would work fingernail polish remover make sure it has asatone in it or try paint thinner good luck

Yea, nail polish or asatone.

Either that or just a get some new rims... I got 8 dish wheels for like 8 bucks on ebay yesterday... I'm gonna slap some rally tires on 'em later.

I got the tyres off using anger! The rims have a gold finish, so I figre and solvent that will break the superglue bond will also dissolve the finish. Until i get tired of their glittering golden finish, I'll go easy on the solvents. Ahem.

Boil some water, and then put the rims in the boiling water for about 15 minutes, the tires will then come right off.;)

Hmm - I tried that. The water wasn't boiling, just on the pain threshold for my hands. Maybe thats why it didnt work so well. Thanks for the advice!

goo gone. used to take letters of of cars. i bet it can work on rc tires.


if you want to drift jusst put the pvc or abd on the tire. no difference if its on the tire then the rim

OK, so drifting doesnt reqiure special set up or accessories then, thats cool. I have a 4wd CEN funfactor, so that should work! I might give it a go for a change... Thanks for the tips.

You might want to lock your rear differential, too.

just to let you know, you dont have to... but its a good idea... ive yet to do it on my tt-01... and im still drifting fine... (or was untill i lost a servo screw and bushing... im such an idiot) I just dont want to wreck anything.. and i dont like the idea of putting gunk in my diffs....

Wow, how can u drift without your rear diff locked. I put drift tires on my Pro 3 without the rear locked and all it did was spin out. You could barely go straight, too. Same with my TL-01.

Interesting... Tractors have a big lever or button that locks the differential, none on the fun factor! So locking the diff, from what I gather, involves putting some extra thick lube in it, or a mechanical method of locking the two half shafts? Would the extra thick "gunk" not cause the whole thing to get hot, and load the engine unnecessarily, and eventually ruin the gears?? My diff has some method of limiting the slip, not sure what as it was RTR, but my assumption is that it is some very viscous grease...

what i did was buy a second standard diff, and put super strong lock tite in the diff gears in my spare diff - wallah! locked diff :)

And when i don;t want to drift, i just pull that one out and put the normal one back in :)

you can use a hot glue gun, which is not permenant, you can rip it off, and no if you use a thick lube, its not going to ruin your gears, it'll just annex the power differently, maybe a little more stress. If you have a ball diff, then you can just tighten it up a lot, and it will work fine, thats what im doing.
