First drift, spur gear stripped!!!

hey

went for a drift 2day on my road, theres SO little tracktion with ABS!!! but its soo fun. After 10mins my spur gear was stripping, i'd noticed this a few days ago but i hadnt got round to getting a new, anyway whithin 5 more mins my car wouldnt move, the motor just spinning! it was funny but no i cant drift [:o]

I've only got stock 27 motor in atm. when i was racing i had a 10x3 mod but i took it out for another car when i stopped racing electric and the no limit speed controll got wet  so i just have the standard speed controll and a stock motor.

Whats the Best motor to drift with? apart from brushless?

Stock 27Turn silver Can motor is Perfect for Drift..

There is no need to go psycho with a Brushless Set up..

Hell Most Pro Drifters use a Motor with no less then 19 Turns..

Most of them have found the Tamiya Sports Tuned to be the Ideal Drift motor..
They are Dirt Cheap , have ooodles of Torque which is what is needed for rc drift..

This is what we are trying to make RC'R's understand is , you Dont NEED a low Turn motor to drift.. Sure to Race but not to drift..

Exactly. If you only want to drift, get a cheap stock motor. If you race competitively occasionally, like me, you might want to invest in a tuned stock or spec motor. I actually plan on running Team Br00d motors (27T in the Drift Package and V2 19T spec in the BD) this summer when I get back into racing and drifting.

a always use ma rs4 evo but av been drifting this alot l8ly n its kinda needin parts now  lol and a got bored and decided to but my no limit speed controler in a 4wd kyosho rally car from like 1998 :D and the motor thats in it is a 11 double....do you think this is too powerfully a motor for drifting? av never tryed drifting with electric cars before and am just goin to mess around n see what happens

The thing people fail to understand is that, when it comes to drifting, lower turn motors ARE NOT more powerful. They are tuned for extremely high RPM. Sure, depending on windage, you can have a good amount of torque, but a spec or stock motor has torque to spare. Not to mention they also allow for longer runtimes. Just think about it, a properly geared stock motor will have about 30 minutes of runtime with 3000+maH batteries. As a rule of thumb, I wouldn't recommend anything lower than a 15T.

Some of the drifters you see on well known drift vids use silvercan mabuchi motors which are in fact 30-35T!

...and those motors cost less than a tenner ;)

you think thats bad, i took my rs4 evo out and after 5mins a small brick got caught in the 2speed gears and so the car didnt move, instead just kept the clutch spinnin tryin to grip causin heat so that melted the pinion and the 2spurs together lol, but got em apart and still runs for now

Are you referring to Team Orion Core Stock RS 27T Rebuild ?

Can someone explain the different between stock/Spec motors?
I heard 19T spec is good for drifing also.

CaptEvo the Motor You have there is Ideal for Drift. but here is one that most drifters like as they are cheap and easy to replace.
The Tamiya Sports Tuned ( Black motor as it is called)

This is the Stock 27Turn Silver can motor thta comes fitted Standard to TL-01, TB-02 and TT-01 XB Series
This is a Step down from the Sports Tuned but will still get you sliding on PVC..

( If your going to have to replace a Drift motor go for the Sports Tuned and leave this one.., Drift Kings may be able to alo run the sports Tuned motor)

IMO brushless is harder. I own a Brushless and i can honestly say that sometimes there is too much power for it to drift. although, it can hold out a longer drift than a 27t. i recomend a 27t over a brushless anytime. MAINLY because a brushless is just too powerful.
