TL-01 Is it driftable???
Hey all i just ordered a Tamiya Subaru with the TL-01 chassis. I wish i could have purchased the TT-01, but i couldn't. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if i could make this a decent drifter?
Thanks alot everyone! -Ben |
RE: TL-01 Is it driftable???
its okay as long as you put proper drift tires and have the right typer of motor. The tt 01 is a good drifter but the tl-01 will work.

TL-01 will drift just fine..
A bearing upgrade, ABS drift tyres and a Tamiya Sports tuned motor and it will Slide real nice.. |

A buddy of mine has gotten pretty good drifting with that chassis. The car drifted a lot better after he got some oil filled shocks, though.

I have the TL01 subaru GB rally car. With a locked rear diff and a bearing upgrade it does ok on the super smooth warehouse floor at work even with the stock tires. I'll let you know how it does with PVC and 2" wheels when I get them on.

where can i buy abs tyres for drifting from for my TL01 ?
and what wind motor is optimum for drifting ? what about ESC's ? |
RE: TL-01 Is it driftable???
I got my ABS tires from eBay because I was too lazy to go to the hardware store, get 2" ABS, and cut it to the right size. Any motor above 17 turns (winds) will work fine, but somewhere in the low-20's is best. Your stock ESC is fine as long as it can handle the amount of turns your new motor will have. Make sure you read the stickied topic at the top of the page, it should give you a lot of help getting into drifting.

RE: TL-01 Is it driftable???
I recommend the Tamiya Sports Tuned as a Drift motor
1. Most ESC's Will Accept it 2. Its Cheap 3. It has oodles of Torque and reasonable top end... I am using a LRP GT3 Turbo 19Tx2 and it is A Dream of a motor to Drift with.. but I have a No limit ESC with Reverse.. Great Torque down low and with a 22T pinion Absolutely Flies.. |
RE: TL-01 Is it driftable???
i have 2 tamiya tl01, one is my drifter, and its almost stock, only thing i did was put in ball bearings, carbon drive shaft, and new esc, the stock motor works wonderfully for drifting (except if it is worn out) and you just use the stock slick tires, with about 5-7 layers of electrical tape, and i can do feint drifts, and long full speed drifts, i would reccommend getting a higher tourqe motor, like a reedy quad mag 19t motor, speed tuned gears arnt for drifting, but u can get them, and do NOT get ball diffs (kind of obvious) and with the gear diffs, just open them up, and stick in some silly putty to lock them ( it can be easily removed).
