finished my tt-01 - bent tyres
1 Attachment(s)
finished building my brand-spanking-new tt-01 yesterday (within 2 hours of receiving it), and went out today to find some pipe for tyres - nightmare! went to about 4 or 5 diy/hardware shops and the best i could find was drainage pipe which i think is pvc.
anyway, when i came to fit the tyres they were very tight and i lost my temper and threw my dummy out the pram, then i remember someone on here saying something about heating up the tyres before fitting them - tried that and still wouldn't work so i tried actually boiling them before fitting and finally got them on... but check out the picture of the wheel - the surface of the tyre has dipped in the the middle of the wheel, which leaves me with a contact patch of roughly all. haven't tried drifting yet, waiting for my batteries to turn up, but i can see traction being a biiiiiig problem |

did you heat up the tires and cool it down like really fast. I think it contracted and there is nothing in the middle so it sucked in. what diameter did you get the pipes. i got PVC and i got 2 inch and it was a little too big and i had to use some tape. i cut the pipe a little bigger so there would be a little lip to hot glue it. it turned out pretty good. first try:D

i didn't cool them down, but if they've been in boiling water and then get pushed onto a wheel at room temp then maybe that cools it too quick? i got 51mm pipe - was the closet i could find in black. might have to get grey (or gray for you americans, well i spose if u can't spell colour (color) right, your not gonna get the individual ones on the money! haha) pipe a little bigger next time.
just went drifting for the first time - borrowed my brothers battery. absolutely hilarious! i now have alot of respect for people on the vids - not as easy as i thought! also i'm getting abit of trouble with turning in at speed and with understeer - could this be to do with my bent tyres??? |
RE: finished my tt-01 - bent tyres
you mean when you go full speed and you try and go into a turn??

RE: finished my tt-01 - bent tyres
OK Lesson For Next Time..
Wrap Electrical Tape around the Middle of the Rim so it is about 1mm taller then the Rims High Wall, this Causes the PVC/ABS to cool down over the top of the tape and reduces the Dip in the middle of the rim.. Sorry.. We should have done a write up on how to do it and I apologise for this.. OK, To get a High Speed Slide happening, Kill the Accelerator, Turn in then Re-apply full throttle, you need to break the forward momentum to get it to turn in as with Pipe tyres, you have next to no traction and the Forward momentum will pussh it forward untill you can break the traction and Change its course.. |

yeah, i've been practicing and i'm getting the hang of it. :D :D :D sooooo much fun.
thanks for the advice on the wheels - will do that when these tyres are shredded! |

LOL. funny.
You want to check if you're using a 2inch pipe for tires. It should just fit over the rim with no dip. |
