New Drifter , Which Kit?

Hey , I'm new to drifting , but not RC's. I'm looking to get a drifting car kit. If the kits do not include the radio , or batteries/motor ...whats the best kit i can get for AROUND $ 300 ?

Do you reccommend the Yokomo Car kits?

What are preferred companies? Thanks.

EDIT : I have recently changed my mind about weather to get nitro , so now i am open to both electric and gas possibilities.

I do NOT know anything about electric. Would these be better for drifting? Also what are the top speeds for a good electric car?

Look for a Tamiya TT-01 or TB-02

Yokomo are nice Kits but over priced..

I was just outside with my TC3 (Nitro) and was surprised how well it drifted with regular rubber comp. street tires..If i only got drift wheels for this , do you think it would be OK rather then buying a whole new car?

And one other aspect , Do you think a cheaper HPI kit without the engine ( just the basics ) and the HPI drift conversion would be good as far as nitro?

If You have the Room and the Money To burn Then there is no reason not to Drift the Nitro HPI Stage D Tyres are Recommended for Nitro Drift

Its Just Electrics can be Drifted in Smaller Space and Running Costs are alot lower and you can attend late night drift meets and Indoor Meets with an Electric where as Nitro's are not allowed at some places..

Here's my TT-01D drift spec. Out of the box it drifts pretty good BUT it is excellent on low traction surfaces such as tile. Just upgraded to 15T motor so I can get more power on rough surfaces. I prefer drifting electric because it isn't as costly as nitro. If you want something fast then get a good ESC and a motor lower then 15 turns. Here's a [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQSKA30oWPk]video of when my TT-01D was drifting STOCK.[/link]

Running 23T Tamiya Sport Tuned motor and Tamiya 23T ESC provided in the kit.

Now running 15T Orion Method R motor and Novak XRS 15T ESC with brake and reverse. (Wiring a bit messy because I ran out of zip ties..)

Would [link=http://cgi.ebay.com/Team-Associated-TC4-RTR-New-in-Box_W0QQitemZ130009593620QQihZ003QQcategoryZ44029Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem]This tc4 [/link] , or a Yokomo drift kit be better? I would really like to get the tc4 rtr , because its cheap , and all i would have to do i change the motor / batteries / ESC. I have decided i DO want an electric , since i already have an NTC3 nitro...

1.What is the best electric drift motor , that still have alot of speed ?

2. whats the Best ESC for the motor you refer me to..
and
3.what batteries would you recommend i use to power this beast?

RE: New Drifter , Which Kit?

I'm using a Team TC4 with ABS tires and running a Orion 12T motor and a 3300 6 cell battery pack... this set up is good for me but when I use my Tamiya Drift Tires then the 12T does does not have enough torque. I may need to go up to a 19T instead but until I start attending drift races I'll stick to my 12T motor.

I drift with a tt-01 and a tb-02. i quite like the tb-02 and it was well priced. once i got the tb-02, the tt-01 didn't feel that great, that is, until i swapped motors. i put the p2k2 from my tb-02 into the tt-01 and it made such a difference. really smoothed the car out. i was so darn surprised how much of a difference swapping motors made. if you decide to go with a tt-01, go with the D or R versions, or go with the tb-02. the tb-02 has alot of upgrades already stock and so you wouldn't have to do much after. both chassis are relatively cheap when found used too. theyre both bathtub chassis, so pretty strong too.
for a motor, try to find one between 20 and 27T. what you want is torque and those turns give good torque and also good speed.
any esc will do as long as it can handle the turns. reverse is nice, but you don't really need it. i don't have a reverse for my esc and i dont even mind.
for tires, just goto the hardware store and buy yourself some ABS tubing(its that black plastic plumbing tubing stuff. try to find ABS and not PVC. abs has better grip and pvc is somewhat poisonous when heated up). you'll want 2" stuff and that fits over most tires perfectly. just cut it into tires and you have yourself a cheap set of drift tires.

JDM, clean up them wire's.. And i dont mean how thier spread threwout the car. I mean get rid of all the restriction's.. Long wire's, Spade, And bullet connector's all causing you to lose power.

TR4XX, Since you already know AE's quality, and adjustability, i'd go with a TC3 or TC4. Sure the TT01's are nice, and cheap. however Drifting's all in the suspension, And fact is, TC3's more "tunable".

I'd also stick with a 19-27t motor, as thier "Torquier".
