Budget Drifter: Read here
Time and Time again we keep getting people buying a Tyco Drift King because " I can't afford a TT-01"
I have Recommended the HBX TL-01 to Over 100 people and they have all been Impressed by what they got.. It is possible to get one from E-bay Fully RTR for under $100. Now, the Quality of the HBX is far from being that of a TT-01.. (I just Scored one Delivered for $139 AUD or $107US) You could do a lot better) The Controller Does the Job but feels lightweight and plasticy , The Stock 1800mah Battery is more like a 400mah and the Charger it comes with takes 4 Hours to charge the 1800mah with no safety Cut off.. So what Do you get?? You get a Car that has Tamiya TL-01 aftermarket support, something a drift king doesnt have. You get a Car that Allows Crystals to be Swapped so If Your friend has the same frequency, Crystals can be swapped Unlike a Drft king where You would have to buy one RX7 and One Silvia Although the Quality of the Supplied Gear isnt that great, it does come RTR and for $100, You cant complain.. It Comes with a Pre-painted Shell of Which will either be a Lancer (as Pictured) or as an Top Secret Skyline..(Poor reproductions but Hye who cares when your gonna be replacing the Shell anyway) http://www.modellismomaximo.com/imag...shi-Lancer.jpg To Get these Cars to Drift, All you need is Some Rims with PVC or ABS Tyres.. Thats All.. A Battery Charger and Battery upgrade is recommended but with a TT-01 you would do this anyway.. http://www.modellismomaximo.com/imag...an-Skyline.jpg So How do they Perform They come with a Heat sink Cooled 22T Motor and Revs would be around the 23000-25000rpm So they do go a little Quicker then a Stock TT-01, a little but not Much. The Tyres and Rims they come with are rather pretty to look at but the chrome peels off fast and the rubber, being a Soft Radial tends to wear quickly.. So who the Hell are You to Be Reviewing Such a Car! Easy.. I own one.. I have a TT-01 and a HPI Sprint 2 and comparing this car with a TT-01 I am able to State its performance compared with a TT-01.. http://www.modellismomaximo.com/imag...ocomandata.jpg What Are the Downsides? 1. Its Not a Brand Name and it is a Clone... Who Cares if It drifts.. 2. The ESC is a Mixed Bag, some will handle 19T motors others will roast below the 22T they have. 3. If the ESC blows, then You need to buy a New Reciever and ESC as it is a combo unit as seen in the Picture above.. 4. Quality isnt as good as Tamiya but for $100 You cant expect it to be.. I mean it is Better then a Drift king and Can be rebuilt if Broken.. 5. TL-01 Parts are getting hard to get but at least you can still get them I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ABOVE A TT-01... This is for those who simply cannot a Afford a TT-01 and want to get drifting quickly.. If You can afford a TT-01 then get it instead... |

RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
Excellent information.
I ws looking through ebay just the other night and was considering either one of these HBX cars or the Tamiya TB02. I ended up ordering the TB02 as I wasn't sure what the HBX gear is like. Still glad I got the TB02, but had I known about this thread I would have at least given the cheaper HBX a closer look. |
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
You advised over 100 people? I doubt that very much.
You lied there didn't you? Also; the TL01 has a rear-wheel power advantage, with skill you can slide on rubber. However; prolonged drifts are rare because of the weight dragging over the rear. Chris. |

ORIGINAL: C.A.R. You advised over 100 people? I doubt that very much. You lied there didn't you? I don't think he lied.....I think he copied that info from another site and reposted it here. |
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
No, I didnt Lie, I have Recommended it to over 100 people.. Over 100 people have read this post I have made since I have posted it here and on other RC Drift Forums.. Each one with more then 40 views
So in a sense.. I didnt lie.. Extended truth but not a lie and no, I made the post from Scratch , not copied from any other site.. Since I own one I reviewed one.. |

All you haters out there get a LIFE!!!! |
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
ok im thinking of getting one of these. I just have a few questions.
1. ive heard the controllers brake really easy, is this true? 2. are bodys avaible for these from most hobby shops? 3. are they good for the price? thanks for answering in advance EDIT: im only thinking of getting one of these until i really get into RC drifting, when i do and if i like doing it im going to probably a better one |
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
Let me Answer them in Order.
1. I have one of the Controllers and , Yes I can See how they would Brake Easily as they do feel light I have not had any such problems with mine at all, but for the Money you pay, they are reasonably good.. Just no where near as good as a Futaba. 2.190mm Bodies will fit them, You just need to make The Body pole holes your self.. as You would any chassis. 3.For the money You pay, They are better then a Drift king but don't go expecting a Ferrari for the Price of Nissan... They are Great drift start packages for those who cannot afford to Buy a TT-01.. These are Drift King Alternatives, a TT-01 is a Better Chassis.. but for the price, Yes.. They are Exactly like a Tamiya TL-01.. The gears, Driveshafts, Bearings Chassis are all compatable with a Tamiya TL-01. The only thing is, they have cheaper made Controllers, ESC's and Recievers.. We havent done tests to find out How low the Stock ESC will go but We have been able to run 19T motors on the stock ESC with minimal Heat build up best performance is with a 3300mah battery which the stock charger will not charge |
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
ok thanks for that.
sinse it is 1:10 would any 1:10 body would fit on it? ok well how much is a decent controller that works well. Cause i will probably end up buy a tt-01 anyway later down the track. thanks for those answers. and my friend said that it is a cheap knock-off from tamiya, is this true or should i stop listening to him? |
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
travy: like magnat said, any 190mm bodies will fit it, avaliable at your hobby stores, hobbyco sells HPI bodies for about 37 dollars, and they come wiht small *****s to show you where to drill the holes for the TL-01.
For controllers you can get a decent futaba radio with 2 servos and a receiver for 125 dollars at hobbyco too, or get a digital one for 140. |
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
i'm getting 2 of these
[link=http://www.readyracers.com]ReadyRacers[/link] one with the civic body and one with the rx7 body then the upgraded tamiya sport tuned motors....everyone says they look completely compatable with the tt01 |
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
I hope that last site is getting permission from HPI for posting all there bodies.
|
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
thanks for that chris & magnat
|
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
Yes, It is a Knock off from a Tamiya TL-01, which has been Stated Before.. I can assure you though, it is still a reasonably well built car..
This is a better Alternative then a Drift King.. as it has Aftermarket Support from Tamiya's TL-01 Parts Range.. It is not better then a TT-01, Just Better then a Drift King... |
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
how about one of these? With some drift wheels? 59 bucks.. I know my himoto rapida will drift with a pair of RD Logics drift tires on it.[link=http://cgi.ebay.com/HIMOTO-NEW-RC-R-C-1-10-4WD-ELECTRIC-ON-ROAD-RACE-CAR_W0QQitemZ250055824656QQihZ015QQcategoryZ44015Q QcmdZViewItem?hash=item250055824656]himoto NASCADA[/link]

RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
Ready Racers are HBX Beast Chassis.. From what we can Gather they are loosly based on the Tamiya TB-02 and suffers the same Weak Diff problem.. I Do not recommend getting the HBX Beast Chassis as We are still unsure of the Aftermarket support for them..
As for the Himoto Rapida and Nascada.. I have heard some good things about them but not sure what the Aftermarket support is like... judging from the E-bay add, Haiboxing (HBX) is written on the Battery??? The HBX TL-01 we already know has Tamiya Spares aftermarket options available to it as well as HBX's own TL01 parts range.. |
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
ok so most tamiya t1-01 parts fit the HBX?
|
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
Yes, Nearly All except the Front Bumper..the HBX Front bumper is Held on by 3 Screws..
|
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
ok awesome. all i really wanna put on is a new body.
EDIT: oh and do the chassis break easy or do they last a while? |
RE: Budget Drifter: Read here
this is a really nice, neat entry level drifter. good review Mag [sm=thumbup.gif]
