Having A Ball!
im having the best time drifting my nitro lately
besides what has been said and proved about nitro vs. electric im loving the realism ive locked the rear diff and bought some premounted tamiya 26mm drift tyres/rims its great, its quite realistic too, not just ice skating. takes speed and control to whip the rear out and with a bit of practice im starting to learn the control needed to hold it sideways longer the cars an rs4 by the way so this i just a little shout out to those who are thinking about nitro drifting or are trying just give it a go i know electric will most likely always dominate this sport but by god is nitro drifting fun im going to try and get some video tomorow any one else had success/fun with nitro? RE: Having A Ball!
ive hada ton of fun drifting my nitro, i never had the $$ to put drifting rubber on it though, always just used abs.
|
RE: Having A Ball!
zhow does ABS work for nitro drfting. I was worried that it wouldnt have enough traction for the car to even get up to speed.
|
RE: Having A Ball!
ive used pvc, it was hopeless, completely like driving on ice.. not much fun at all really just spins out too much for nitro
and alot of over revving aswell. have not tried abs as i asked around to those who are in the know and its not that much grippier than pvc suposedly drift rubber is working for me though |

RE: Having A Ball!
i'd like to find out were i can get some ABS pipe.
i've been using PVC and it is like driving on ice but i can still drift it and control it on some surfaces like tenis courts and conrete. |
RE: Having A Ball!
Electrics.. Far more Exciting to Watch .. man there were some Smooth as transissions in between corners..
The Angles were Insane! Shells looked good too I saw Mostly Yokomo Shells.. Nitro Drifting?? The Tail Hardly even Stepped out... |
RE: Having A Ball!
Nitro drifting can get the tails far out, but there harder to get into side to side drifts. Ive been drifting my nitro Rs4 with the HPI stage D tires, and it worked great except all of a sudden my nearly brand new engine died, i trying to figure out whats wrong.

RE: Having A Ball!
Heat would have been the killer for you.. Engines dont like reving their heads off and thats what happens in Drifting , they sit on high rpm which builds up the heat , Try an Electric, I really do think you will like it better, sure it wont be as fast but it will be really smooth..

i agree[sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: Having A Ball!
Drifting nitro is like bashing nitro MT's... Faten up the LSN and HSN to the point of slobering rich, but still idling and you can keep the temps below 200f. Dont run it WOT all the time, you dont even need to run it over 1/2 throttle most of the time. Ive been drifting my spider for 5 months now with the same POJ .18CX with no problems. And the xtra smoke from running it phat is way to awesome!
If your new to drift, or like the smooth (slow) control of an electric, then start with electric. Then when your board of that, and you get better, move to nitro. Seems only logical to me... I have both, and I use both all the time, but I prefer nitro when I can afford the fuel, lol. |
RE: Having A Ball!
my transitions are not the smoothest but it's still enough to get around, i would sacrefice the smoothness of electric for the power and longer play time of the nitro (it gives me more time to practice! :)
