PROS and CONS of drifting

Let's start a thread that states the pros and cons of drifting.

I've flown helis, I've off roaded my Maxx and Revo, I've done circuit racing but I've always broken something.

However, in drifting, breaking things are virtually impossible.

PROS:
1. Drifting doesn't lend itself to easy breakage.
2. Don't need a lot of space to drift; just need creativity and style.
3. My battery lost SOooooooooo long compared to my nitros or when I race my batter and/or nitro circuit racing.

CONS:
????

RE: PROS and CONS of drifting

Cons: It's nothing like real drifting,
------ real life factors aren't there wit abs(camber, toe, actual revs)
------ slow speed

but it seems fun, :D

SSJChar 01-08-2007 01:20 AM

RE: PROS and CONS of drifting

hehe its actually super super easy to get abs here, and hard to find proper pvc size(though i havn't actually looked, all the places ive went to had abs).
cons, id have to say that people who don't drift look down upon it because its not racing, so they think its... i dunno, counter productive i guess in the racing scheme of things.
another con is that people often associate drifting with current pop culture, and boy, do i ever hate most of this generations popular stuff, especially rap. i watch a decent amount of rc drift videos on youtube and whatnot, and i can't tell you how many times ive heard this one song being used. not only was it a bad song, but in my mind, it was really really really bad one. and of course it turned out it was the song from tokyo drift, which seems to glorify the style of living that i oh so hate.

I don't know every home depot where I am sells 2'' x 10 ft ABS for like 10 bucks

Yeah I hear ya on that comment!

I've noticed that alot of people are purely focused on speed and dont think about the precision and style involved in drifting. Hey anyone can hit the throttle and go forward but not everyone can maintain a sideways angle around a corner GRACEFULLY!!

the only CON for me is the traveling, i have to drive at least an hour to a drift meet cause not many people do it here.

RE: PROS and CONS of drifting

Con: you dont get any chicks when drifting a rc car compared to drifting 1:1.

Pro Drifting is the s&^ when your on a open piece of tar, just a little dust in the sunset light, when you start drifting at high speed and the dust lifts and it look some some old cowboy movie except you got something faster than a horse!!!
Damn i love that, did it again on Sunday!!!!!!!!!

My pro and con

Pro: There are chassis for every kind of driving style(Ex. Handling, acceleration, durability)

Con: Some terrains can be a pain

RE: PROS and CONS of drifting

Pro: It's not like 1:1 drifting (i.e. ish doesn't break like real cars. drift 1:1 and you replace ish QUICKLY. lotta fun tho)
It's cheap to do
It's hella fun
It doesn't take a lot of space.
You can do it almost anywhere

Cons: I'm too big to fit in 1:10 cars

RE: PROS and CONS of drifting

drifting takes place sort of in most racing. in formula 1 racing, the best and fastest way to come out of a corner is tail-out, or a slight drift. some people have just taken this a little further.

the drugs thing is very true and in southafrica with the crime its keeps the kids safe when they out with fellow drifters in a group or adults

floppsy,

I like your collection; nice man.

Out of your collection, which is the most fun?

CON:

Be like floppsy and have too many drifters.

PRO:

Have beautiful cars to look and and drift anytime like floppsy does.

RE: PROS and CONS of drifting

hehe yeah I've got a few now havent I (and I'm actualy thinking about building another soonish)... I really enjoy the building part of them :)

Well I cant comment on the Yokomo yet because I'm still building it (waiting on some bearings to arrive. About a week and I'll have pics up of the finished car) but out of the other 2 I think I'd have to say the Sprint 2 is the one I have more fun with. I'm a big fan of being able to tweak and adjust the car. Infact I play with the camber alot still on the Sprint2 because I'm still experimenting with how it effects my handling of the car.
At first when I got the TT-01 I thought "great I can just drive it and not worry about having to adjust anything to get it to run right", but then I quickly found that I kinda wanted to adjust and play with things.

To me the Sprint2 also feels a bit easier to throw around and predict because the chasis is a little better balanced then the TT-01.

Give me a week and I'll report on how I feel the Yokomo fits in with the other 2. :)

RE: PROS and CONS of drifting

Pro's

-with enough ingenuity it can be done with an style R/C (From an xmod to a Savage)
-it really makes you think more about co-ordinating your trigger finger with your steering hand
-watching two or three+ cars drifting side by side within inches (or millimeteres) of each other in complete harmony is much more exciting than watching the same three cars following each other through a corner nascar-style one behind the other.
-Dirt cheap to get into at the 1/10th scale cuz you don't need the best of the best for ANYTHING (older chassis, boring radio, stock motor) All you really need is a surface and tires.
-With electrics it can be done indoors (I used to drift my pro2 in my kitchen) and your cats will love it :P

Con's

-not quite as accepted as a "sport" as regular racing
-some noob is always going out and just WOT around a parking lot with ABS tires then wondering why he blew his motor up
-again with the "it doesn't score you chicks" and if it does, they have greasier foreheads than you do lmfao

RE: PROS and CONS of drifting

I personaly think that alot of rc drifting is very simular to real life drifting
that being you have to have good throttle control
without that you have nothing.
Just like in 1/1 scale drifting to much throttle coming into the corner and your going to spin out.
not enough and it aint going to get that nice angle that we are all after. if for some reason you cant get it broadside just tap the brakes and mash the throttle with the correct counter steer. why do you think 1/1 scale drifters use the hand brake!

that is the same princible for drifting anything from real cars, rc cars and motor bikes.
Throttle control and counter steering as well as the odd stab at the brakes will see you drifting anything all day with practice :D:D:D
