Try and Buy the Best possible Reversible ESC you can afford..

I use both an RCLINE PC Series No limit ESC and a M-Troniks RV-11 Viper ESC and Both have Been Brilliant..

I too have Found that the LRP ESC is Hopeless at Drift.. It really isnt responsive enough at all..
The Motor is Held back by that ESC so You will need at least a 15 T ESC to Handle the 17x2T it makes a Huge Difference once you Ditch the AI Runner PLUS reverse...

To Improve the Response of that ESC, your Controller (If it is the Stock One From HPI ) Has been set at 70/30 Braking.)
Reading the Manual you will find it has a Screw and Switch on the Controller allowing you to set it up for 50/50. which is a Big improvement for Drift...

The novak XRS is a great ESC. Im curreently running one in my ta05, with my cos7 PRO, and it seems very responsive, especially for a budget ESC.

You might want to try to reprogram the ESC.Mine was like that and I reset it and made it alot better.
