Want to start driving sidewayz
I've been getting into the whole drifting scene with r/c's, and i was wondering if any of you could tell me a good starting car that is easy to drift and control.
And a reasonable price around $150 or so. Thanks |
RE: Want to start driving sidewayz
You could buy an RC18R (check tower/hobbypeople/ebay) which is around 170 dollars and includes everything you need.
Only thing you would need to do is find a very smooth surface to run it on and put some ABS/PVC/Electrical tape on the tires to reduce traction. I bought a RC18R Mitsubishi Lancer a week ago and I drift like crazy around my garage, nice smooth drifts. But the garage floor is very slippery so it helps. As far as the 1/10 scale, i don't think 150 is enough to get you in the game unless you went TT-01, the cheapest kit, the cheapest parts and absolute garbage batteries and charger... actually, i dunno if you could even do it for 150, but anyway, for around 200 you could build a 1/10th scale drifter like the TT-01 and imo, 1/10 looks WAY cooler drifting than 1/18 scale, but still fun either way. Nice thing about those RC18t/b/r kits is they include absolutely everything you need except batteries for the transmitter. |
RE: Want to start driving sidewayz
If you want to get into it, I'd recommend a 1/10 scale car. TT01 on your budget. It's the least expensive car. It's a begginner level car, not to be confused with crap. As for tires, ABS. pm me if you wanna know how to get some pre-made.
All you need is a 4wd car and practice. If you want a smaller car, get a the RC18R. You're not gonna get an "official Drift bodies" at that scale, but I'm sure you throw some stickers at something and call it a replica or drift car. It's just a lexan shell. :D |

RE: Want to start driving sidewayz
well need and want are two different things, if you're totally strapped for cash, just grab the Subaru WRX TT-01 Kit for 79 bux from Tower.
Then get: Cheap 2 way AM radio kit - should come with one servo too- $45 That's enough to make it go, but i think most everyone here would say the performance will be pretty horrible. First upgrades should probably be ball bearings which 100% of people will say to try and get them when you buy the kit to install as you build, they run about 20 dollars. Aside from that, you'll need lexan cutting scisors, maybe a reamer, and some paint and you'll be ready to go. You won't really be able to drift unless you find a very smooth surface like a garage floor or you get some ABS or PVC to put on the wheels. I think the nice thing about the TT-01 is you can start out pretty cheap with it and if you're willing to invest in the time and money you can make it into a pretty nice machine... maybe not state of the art racer style, but aside from that, the possibilities are ripe. |

RE: Want to start driving sidewayz
what would you say are the best tyres for drifting
|
RE: Want to start driving sidewayz
Yokomo single rings are the best tires for drifting. But you can't afford those. HPI and +1 also have good tires. You can't afford those either. Go with ABS

RE: Want to start driving sidewayz
I love ABS/PVC/PE tyres, Nice and Long drifts are easy to hold and technical slides are challenging without being a pain and the cost you have to love.
$4AUD for 1 Metre of Pipe which is 36 tyres!!! and you get around 3-4 hours of constant sliding per set.. |
