RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
True the gearing is key here.
If your running tall gearing on a low turn with this esc it will fry no doubts. so if your unsure stick with the standard gearing for low turn motors simple;) also the type or make of motor makes the difference due to the amp pull ive ran a 15t fireball on mine on 23/58 with no problem with normal heat after a 20min run,but i bet if id ran a pricier 15t motor it would of killed the esc,so when buying a motor check for the amp pull and go from there[8D] |

RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
Hye Tiger I bought the aluminum shaft for my TT01 but its a little short it seems does not extend all the way into the propellar joints. Rubber Orings fixed the problem for now. I was told that the aluminum shaft for the TB Evo IV was a better fit since i replaced the propellar joints. Do you know anything about this? I don't want to reorder the wrong part.

RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
Hi, I have just upgraded with a couple of components and have a problem.
the Car is TL-01 as standard but just bought Tamiya RZ Super Stock Motor and also ESC TEU101BK. I installed the ESC first with the standard 540 motor. The car seems to cut out if full throttle is applied. after running for a while it gradually built up to running on full throttle for a while but then goes back to cutting out. I upgraded the motor and the problem persists. If you just push the stick full forward the car stutters and doesn't go. if you gradually push forward it starts runs quite fast then cuts out. I reset the esc both times and no joy. after reading this thread I guess I made the right choice for beginners on the ESC and motor for a simple upgrade. Still not sure what is meant by the turns of a motor 23T ? hope you could give me some info. cheers mark |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
Hey m8 welcome to the forums :D
the turns in motors represent rpm/speed so a 27 turn (the silver one u have) down to lower turns which produce more power so a 15 turn will be faster than a 21 or 27 turn. I had that ESC once and found setting up was a pain even after following the build book lol In the end i didnt use the seperate battery holder and ran it straight from battery and it set sweet for me. Also make sure ur radio trims are set maybe why the cut outs? |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
Thanks for the response, I had another go last night at resetting the ESC. turning off reverse fresh batteries. Everytime comes back the same.
If I push the stick full throttle the car jerks forward and stops, forward/stop, forward/stop, forward/stop until I let go. If I gradually increase the throttle it runs at low speed and increases then stops. Basically you can't run the car in it's current state. Its the Acomms Techniplus controller as standard. All I can think of doing is removing the ESC and motor and add the RZ motor on the standard speed controller, then put it down to a faulty ESC. It is new though from hong kong. Not sure what is meant by radio trims? I have built the tamiya kits before with t he midnight pumpkin in the 80's then the TL-01 for my son thanks agian for your reply and sorry about posting in this thread, it seemed it maybe an issue with controller or motor but more I think now the setup. At least I found the site and can now read more on the subject.:D |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
Oh yeah sorry, I also always run the cars controllers straight from the main battery not the 4 battery pack.
|
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
my car had this problem too. all i did was give the batteries a good charge and it was all good :)
i would be interested to see how the RZ motor goes with the ESC as i am looking at this combo aswell, but have heard that the ESC might overheat |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
Finally got a new battery for the car.
Yep it was definately a dead cell or something making it stall at full throttle. I have taken the 4x4 rod from the car so it's only 2wd! Maybe thaty was a bad idea LOL. The car is so fast it's nearly uncontrollable! Difficult to even keep in a straight line. it can drift whilst doing crazy speeds. Thanks for replying to my posts and helping anyway, just thought I would post back the result as to why my combo wasn't working very good and it turns out it was a simple error on my part i.e the battery. I really should have 3 or 4! |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
i have ran a 13x2 motor on mine lol
was that from Tamiya? |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
Car is TL-01 as standard but just bought Tamiya RZ Super Stock Motor and also ESC TEU101BK. I like to build the kits up although I have built only 2 Midnight Pumpkin and this TL01. Cheap from hong kong only £50 delivered off ebay. The motor and speed controller from hong kong to. I find it difficult to get parts in UK even though theres a GeeDee model shop nearby. Easier on the net. Cost me around £30 for motor and speed controller both brand new. |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
I'm running a Tamiya Wild Dagger with 2 original silver cans built-in with just 1 TEU101-BK ESC, yes 1, and it runs fine. My current battery is only 2100mah so the run time is not that long. I'll be using a 4500mah this week for the first time and I'll let you know how the ESC will handle this longer run time running 2 motors.

RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
im running a teu-101 in my vendetta mini. its great with a 1320 mah 7.4 lipo. the esc never gets hot the motors scream. im running 380 brushed motors and this esc. im wondering what would happen if i put my 11.1 volt 1350 mah lipo on it . will the extra voltage hurt this esc since im running a smaller motor it draws less amps right? would i get a real advantage in power or just fry motors faster?
i got this esc in a trade and have been quite suprized with it i can hammer on it hard and it barely makes any heat at all after i did the heatsink mod. |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
Im sure it only can handle 8.4v so it would probally go pooof and let the magic smoke out lol :D
|
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
i have done that to other esc's thats why i asked first this time .....
thanks |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
I run mine on a 17x2t motor and It seems to thermal shutdown more often the more I run it but seems to never shutdown at night.
|
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
I ran a 23 turn Super Stock TZ motor and bigger 4 inch wheels with low gearing and it burn the ESC out after taking it to the skate park making it go up the big walls.
I ran good for along time though for such a cheap ESC. |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
IhaveTL-01 4wd that i want to upgradeIt currently has a silver can motor, i just bought TEU101BK ESC (unsure if i should of got the teu302 esc).
Could i go brushless with either ESC what are the benefits I was wondering what motor/battery for either setup i should go with for what this car can handle(ie bearing/drivetrain/gears). I wont be doingracing just parkinglot fun. thanks. |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
what does RZTZ RRmean?
|
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
does anyone know whats up with my teu101bk??
When i turn it on it starts to beep and nothing works, and yes i have turned everything on as well as my receiver. The receiver is all plugged in and all the wires are fitted properly so what is it??? Is my e.s.c. screwed???<br type="_moz" /> |
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
try reprogramming it?
|
RE: The Truth about the Tamiya TEU101-BK ESC
A lot of information about the current drain, which is very nice. But since ihave quite a few TEU101s sitting in various models, I've considered what voltage they can accept? I believe that the folder says 7.2 V and below post suggests 8.4. I'd like it to run 8 cells = 9.6 into a 450 BB Race mounted in a boat.
Using AA cells, theres a high voltage drop under load, so I think worst condition would be 8,5V at 15A. Maybe even more like 8V at 12A, which I think the ESC will tolerate. But just after charging - before running - the voltage will be some 10-12V (no current) - how will the TEU101 like that? (I'll be using a separate BEC not to fry the receiver) thanks for your comments / mike ORIGINAL: TIGER76 Im sure it only can handle 8.4v so it would probally go pooof and let the magic smoke out lol :D |
