Help choosing A drifter
 

I have been looking at the Following cars, I am simple my wants are something that has great aftermarket support, Is a known awsome drifter, Electric, Shaft or belt drivin, whichever is better for drifting. I know nitro cars well but im new to electrics... Best Bang for the Buck

i have a TC4 RTR and its great, i don't think there are many hobby store that carry yokomo parts. my friend has a TT-01 and it drift great. i don't kno about the other ones though

I Drift A HPI Sprint 2 and a TT-01 and prefer the sprint 2 to the TT-01

Chassis choice is up to the individual..

Ok... I have done more research.... and I have Narrowed it down to the HPI sprint 2 drift, Team Associated TC-4, I usually go Kit's on my nitro... but I want something that is rtr on this one... so for the rtr version's which one is the better deal... or are they both worth it?

I have a Nizzan 350Z tt-01

And I put some electrical tape around the tires and modified the chassis so that I could fix a E-maxx 550can Titan motor in it... Its a freakin drifting machine!

I say Sprint 2, and I agree with Magnat. I tried both, but own a Sprint 2. I love it!!!

I'd say the Losi either their new drift kit or get a regular XXX-S and drift it. I own both a TC 4 and a Losi XXX-S, if I had to choose one it would be the Losi. The enclosed drive train is really nice, the chasiss is dirt simple for maintainence, yet fully adjustable for setup. The RTR comes with a nice radio and I like the novak based ESC. The TC4 is a fine car, but I perfer the Losi. I've never driven or owned an HPI car so I can't comment on them.

OK... From what im gathering they all seem to be pretty good cars... I keep flip jumping from one to the other....

The TC4 is a Nice Shaft Drive and Comes with a 17T motor but as far as I can tell costs the Most..

I Own a Sprint 2 and if your careful there isnt an issue with chewing Belts.. you just have to use caution when Drifting in car parks with loose surfaces..

Only ever seen a Losi, never actually driven one..

Since Your list is now Down to 3 cars (all of them are great choices,Glad you didnt go Yokomo)

The Next Question I would be Looking at is : Can I get the parts I need for my chosen chassis locally.

2. If I go top of the line, will I be able to run it on Good Batts and get a Decent charger.

2 MAIN Questions you wanna ask.

1) What's your budget? What do you wanna spend on a car? That'll narrow down your choices quite a bit.

2) Do you want shaft or belt? Isn't a huge diff in either one. Belts are more succeptable to rocks.

You can ask which is the "BETTER" drifter, but that's purely opinion. Practice is what makes you good. Not the car. My PERSONAL opinion is that if you can afford a Yok RTR kit, go for that. You're not getting your car from your local hobby shop anyway, so why worry about what it carries. You don't have to get any extra parts or hop-ups for it, so the "LHS" not carrying it is a mute point.

TT01's, Yokomo drift, Hpi Sprint 2 drift : all 3 have great aftermarket support. Yokomo has the best customer service I've EVER dealt with.

Radios, esc's, motors, and things of that nature aren't brand specific so you can get'em at any LHS. And that's the only things you may be swiching a lot depending on your performance needs.

Again, best is relative. Cheapest is the TT01 (but needs a lot of hop-ups) most expensive is Yokomo (drifts outta the box). That's my $.02

I appreciate that Neon Guy... I am not on a budjet... so money is not the issue....

I don't have a LHS so as far as part's go so that is not in my decision factor either...

I realize that with drifting, it is just as important for the skill of the driver to be as adequate as the car setup...

My Main factor in decision is good quality, upgradeable parts available.

I have a hpi 18 ss nitro that I love, so that is why im leaning towards the sprint 2 drift, but I also like variety so that is why im intrested in the associated cars...

I don't know as much about the yokomo so im probably not going to pick that one...

My next question is assides from the tc4 being shaft and the sprint2 being belts

do they both take the same size motor setups, batteries?,... what is each car's limitations... which one is faster out of the box?.... which motor is better that comes with the stock car for drift setups...

They can both use the same batteries, motors, and ESC's. I don't think either have any limitations on each car, as long as its not massive over kill. I know a few people that drift the stock Sprint 2 stil, and they feel pretty nice. The motor is pretty decent for just starting out also. And the motor has a good amount of torque to keep you sideways!

I gotta agree with Big Mac. It's 6 in one corner, 1/2 dozen in the other. I also have a TC4 and it's setup and balance is almost exact to the Yokomo (battery on one side, motor and elecs on the other).
The biggest difference I've seen between belt and shaft is who catches more rocks. I've honestly never seen either have issues. My Yok catches rocks like nobodies business. So, ever few minutes, I shake'em out and keep it moving. I've never seen a belt popping because of debris though. But, I've heard that it happens, and it makes sense.
If money isn't an issue, go with what you like more. Money and LHS support are the 2 biggest factors in people's choices (money being the biggest). But, if that isn't an issue, go with what you're comfortable with. Like I said before, there isn't a BEST really. I've seen quite a few chassis perform well with a good driver on stock set-up, just using tires.
You've actually got it pretty easy cuz you can get what you want.
Since LOSI's RTD kit just came out, I can't really comment on that as I don't know much about it. I think it's the XXX-S chassis or something like that. Not too sure.

I like the Sprint 2's Layout.. everything Moves forward so their isn't any Torque Steer and Changing a Pinion or a Spur is a Breeze.. Having the Battery laying across the Chassis instead of one Side is also neat as it gives it a Neutral sort of Feel..
Only thing I find really annoying is having to pull the WHOLE car apart when you need to change the Belts or Service the Diffs.

I got 11months out of a Rear Belt using it for 20 Hours every week.. My Front Belt is still in top condition..
