tamiya hexes

Hey guys thought i would bring this subject up with you..
as we get alot of newbie drifters on the forums asking about the best hopups etc for drifting
we all know the standard ones now as we learn the hard way hehe
One that doesnt seem to ever get mentioned though is the tamiya wheel hexes now ive been drifting for a good few months now and been through 2 sets of the standard plastic hexes, after 2 sets ive given up and replaced with the metal up grades as the plastic ones seem to crumble and melt after alot of drift abuse i guess its down to the sideways action and pressure on the wheels at speed etc

so who agrees that the metal upgrade hexes are ALSO a must in the end..
like ive said ive been through a fair few sets of the standards plastic one now and was wondering how many of you guys have had to replace yours on the tt01?
we all talk about the propshaft, bearings, shocks etc but as the wheels contact is the most important part of drifting we never mention this...seems strange lol
like to hear your views on this though, cheers guys;)

quite agree with you about stock hexes , the plastics always distort and jam in the wheel , i always change mine to the aluminium clamp on type , plus there anodised blue and look good , plus being clamp on, wheel changes are faster and the drive pin is held in place , how many times have you been changing wheels and the drive pin has dropped out ?[&o]

i would like wider (10mm ) ones though like the same width as the stock plastic hexes you get with the tt01 kit

tamiya makes some aluminum ones.

RE: tamiya hexes

saw the tamiya aluminum one from towerhobbies, the clamp on type is about 17 bones, while the el-cheapo hop-up is only 5. These should be consider "must-have" upgrade especially for those who often change out the wheels to match different body, etc. :)

RE: tamiya hexes

try finding the pins if you drop them on laminate floor , they always seem to bounce and go under the couch[sm=angry_smile.gif]

plus point though its a great surface to drift on if the weathers bad :D

the other half isnt too keen though havin me drifting around the living room while she is trying to watch tv[sm=wink_smile.gif]
