Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
Hey.
I got some PVC, and popped em on. God they're slippery! Constant 360s on the street asphalt.. Crazy.... I was wondering if this is normal :O It drifts on my carpet like a dream.. Also, I have another question: I made some PVC tires, as I said above... These are the WHITE pvc, and not the abs pvc. I was wondering, if you HAVE to round the corners on the pvc when on the rims. I just used hotglue and put it around the outside rim... Do I need to round it? What are the advantages. Can I just use a steel file? |
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
you need to get some of the black abs. that what i use most of the time and works great. I also bought some sushi's. $10 for 3 sets with rounded edges. they work very very well imo

RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
Hehe.. Sushis... I'll have to look into that. Any link you can provide me? :)

RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
Sushi Drift Tires
There is another auction that sells for 8.99 shipped, but that guy has some bad feedback. Might want to be cautious. Link |
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
So, will these rims work:http://cgi.ebay.com/HPI-Split-6-26mm...QQcmdZViewItem
Sorry for the noobish questions... I suck at drifting rah now :) (I'm going to be using the sushi's that freequencsee linked me too, the first link) |
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
yes those will work. what car do you have?
|
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
A TT-01.. Nothing is stock, besides the chassis ,and some other parts. (small parts)
|
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
if you run a 190mm body, omm offset is good. if you want to run a 200mm body, a 3mm offset will fill that well
|
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
Sorry for the noob questions.
What exactly IS offset? And...... can you cahnge the offset? |
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
the offset is changed by the wheel you buy. http://www.hpiracing.com/hpiwheels/touring/
|
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
Hmm, so what would happen if I put the wrong tire on the wrong offset rims?
|
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
ORIGINAL: rawfuls Hmm, so what would happen if I put the wrong tire on the wrong offset rims? all the good drivers i know have there own personal preferences when it comes to offsets. when it comes down i usually use different setups for different surfaces/and track conditions (meaning if its a high speed track). to each there own. ;) |
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
So, it's basically, just looks, right?
Like, how indepth the actual spokes are? 0mm is on the actual wheel circle thing.. 3mm is furhter in, and on? |

ORIGINAL: rawfuls So, it's basically, just looks, right? Like, how indepth the actual spokes are? 0mm is on the actual wheel circle thing.. 3mm is furhter in, and on? offsets can help with looks but with wider rims the wider the wheelbase sits. so in theory you have more balance and sway with a wider wheelbase. |
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
I really like the 0mm offsets... So......
So, offset should really matter, should it? For drifting, you'd want the smallest offset, correct? |
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
ORIGINAL: rawfuls I really like the 0mm offsets... So...... So, offset should really matter, should it? For drifting, you'd want the smallest offset, correct? personally on a tight course i run 3-6mm offset in the front and 0 mm in the rear. with this setup i see that i can pitch into corners at much higher speed and i can control transtions much easier. in bigger tracks i usually run 6-8mm in the front and 3-6mm in the rear. like i said to each there own. you just got to find what you are confortable with and stick with it. dont be afraid to try new things, even if it doesn't work, at least you tried so you know where to make adjustments. REMEMBER every aspect of the car changes how it drives, toe, camber, offset, etc. |
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
If your Just busting into donuts on PVC, then your either going too heavy with the throttle or too heavy with the steering...
Try this : To start out, go to only 1/4 Acceleration... Turn the opposite way to which you want to drift, the in one quick movement, apply full throttle and turn in the direction you wish to drift... then you will need to counter steer as required to Correct the back end... don't Hold the steering on, quick movements from Side to Centre is all that is needed to get the tail out, to keep it out, That requires throttle control.. Same thing, if your car is busting into donuts, Kill the throttle and counter steer.. Killing the throttle or Throttle Pulsing will allow the PVC tyre to regain grip.. The Secret to sliding on PVC is not to be too heavy on the throttle... Practice and you will soon be able to pull of some nice Slides... From then on you can work out how to do transitions... If Your car is not turning the way you want it to, release the accelerator ! Remember, its Not speed that Slides, its the Loss of traction ! |
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
I LIKE SPEED! :D
Yeah, I'm writing that down, and putting it on my transmitter. "1/4 THROTTLE ONLY!" Hehe, will definitely try! |
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
You should try and start off with 1/4 throttle then increase to get the tail sliding..
Practice being a little more gentle, then with confidence increase throttle till eventually you will be able to slide with ease.. PVC is the slipperiest compound so you just have to be a little more friendly with it and keep away from Poles,Gutters and traffic lol.. Let us know how you go.. If you can, shoot a vid of your drifting, from there, we can see what your methods are and deduct a tactic that will help you slide with control.. There are many ways to get a drift started so if one method doesn't work... we can try others... |
RE: Drifting Tires QUESTIONS!
I love getting my Drift car slowly up to full speed, then lightly turn one way, then fast and hard turn the opposite way while holding full throttle and throwing my car in near endless out of control slide/spin. Sometimes doing just one 360 and coming out clean, other times several 360's in a row. It always makes me think of a high speed chase gone wrong:D
