Realistic headlights/tail lights?

Going through the pictures thread and saw all the headlights and tail lights people are using - I know how to put an LED in, but I am talking about the tail lights and head lights that are like actually there behind the body or something. They look real. Basically any car with LEDs as headlights have "bucket" tail lights or head lights - how do you do it?

RE: Realistic headlights/tail lights?

Only certain bodies come with the light buckets. You can find the bodies at the HPI website, www.genkidoridori.com, or just google "rc drift products" and you should turn something up. Be sure you get the right size body (electric 190mm and nitro 200mm). The light buckets are plastic cut outs that go on the inside of the body. First you mask the actual shape of the headlight (and anything else that needs masking) within the shell. Then you paint your shell. Paint the buckets. Light buckets are traditionally painted black or silver for the realistic look, but you can do whatever you like. Once the paint is dry, ream holes in the buckets that the LED's will snugly fit in. Once you have the buckets secure and the LED's mounted in the buckets securely, run your wires and mount the "sequence box" on the inside of the body. Once the wires are ran, plug the LED's into the corresponding slot on the "sequence box". Usually, the LED kits come with different blinking sequences so read the directions when you are plugging your lights in so the right ones blink. It takes a lot more time than a standard body without light buckets, but the outcome is worth it.
