Best Drift Chassis?
Hi
I am thinking about getting into drifting and I was wondering what chassis would be best to get. I would like to get something fairly good to start with so I wont be spending more money on another chassis later on. A RTR would be alright but I would go with a kit if I had too. So far I've been looking at the Tamiya TT01D and the Yokomo MR-4TC SD. Thanks for your help. |

Well if you have the cash for Yokomo, you also should look into the HPI Pro-D, it is up there with Yokomo, don't bother with the TT-01/Sprint2Drift if you are looking to get the best first. But again, Yokomo is awesome and so is HPI Pro-D, driven them both, loved them both and wish I had them both! Good luck!

check out the HPI pro D or the hot bodies Cyclone TC. i would say that these are "high class" drifters if you find that you can't afford them (like me) check out team losi xxx-s or HPI print2, i would consider these the "mid-class" drifters. not the best but not the worst and sure to NOT put a huge hole in your walet:D

there is no best chassis. its all about how well u can tune the car to your needs. find a good car with good part support in your area. i would stay away from xray cars though, they are excellent cars, but will cost you a pretty penny and they come with a new model every year so your car will be out of date in a hurry.

ORIGINAL: peetiewonder there is no best chassis. Tamiya TA03F is the best chassis, or drift comp organizers wouldn't have banned them from competing. No other drifter has a front mounted motor. Its a totally different feel vs. mid or rear motor drifters... Good luck finding one though, glad I kept mine. I like the TT01, cheap to buy new, lots of hopups, drifts with good control if you lock the front diff. Doesn't need much else in the way of upgrades, unless you like to bling your ride. :D The TA05 was a horrible drifter, couldn't get enough over steer no matter what I did... well, not entirely true. I did use different drift tire compounds front and rear to make it usable, but not worth the aggravation. These are the only cars I have drifted, sorry I couldn't be anymore help. Cheers. |

For 60 bucks more you can get a sick Yokomo, dunno that is what I would do!
You will find that the little money goes a long way with Yokomo, the base car is a bit pricey but its got a great setup. Go to www.yokomo.com and select usa, go to car kits and scroll until you see the DP-DR1, then you will need tires, go to tires ->drift -> choose some pre-mounteds for your first set MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET TWO PACKS they come in packs of two....Next get a body Bodies -> get the body you want, I think the subaru looks beastly, next get some batteries, if you want to order a good set go to rcmart they have a good deal going on now with 2 4600s and a light kit for 86 dollars, great deal, then a charger, I will recomend one later, gotta go for now cya. The TA-05 is a fine drifter - I would've won the UK club class series if I had not missed one of the rounds (sisters wedding - the year before it won the pro class!). The TT01 makes a fine drifter - beginner or pro. The TA03F is the creme de la creme - but banned for competition here in the UK. However, it a pro drifter car as it is hard to initiate drift.

All I'm going to say there Peetie is was the TA03F setup properly for your driving style? the old 03's need to be setup properly otherwise I agree that they arent anything flash. Once setup though, LOOK OUT!! hehe.
These days the TA03F just isnt an option anymore. Unless your a collector like me they are just too expensive considering their age and parts are a pain to find. I think these days I'd have to steer people towards the TA05. |

the car was setup pretty well, but like i said there was nothing remarkable about the car that made me want go out and get one. Same thing with the Pro-D. Its a cool car and all taht jazz and it drives well but its not like the car drives so remarkable well that i am going to go out and sell my cyclone to go get one.

I also don't think there is a "best chassis" it depends on what you're budget is and what you want to do with it. If you're just doing it with some friends then a TT-01 would be better imo as they are very tough and easy to find parts for. If you're going to compete that's another matter. But, in the end, most of us buy what we can afford.

Because they are as entry level as you can get. I'm not saying you can't compete with it but if you're going to compete you're going to WANT a better chasis. If for nothing else the steering on the TT-01 is very sloppy.
I'm not just saying this, I've got 3 TT-01's myself with 2 set up as drifters and they are fine for just playing with but I would not compete with them. |

TT01 FTW, i got third overall with a tt01 (even though it was listed as a cyclone s since i ran a cyclone s round 1 which ended up being my throwout) I'll say it again. YOU CAN COMPETE WITH ANY CAR 10% CAR 90% DRIVER i can hang with a lot of cars with my silver can tamiya with friction shocks and ghetto modded diffs |

You're right... it is mostly driver at the club level. put different cars in the hands of the same driver though and you should see better results in track times. agree or not?

this is drifting, there are no track times and thats what alot of people don't get. in some other disciplines the chassis definately matters as much as the driver, however in drift it matters less what you run, and more how you run it. TT01 in drift can hang, onroad racing eh... not so much. TT01 is somewhat like an AE86, if you can drive it and tune, you can hang in certain types of races, however there are other types of races that no matter what you are too much of a disadvantage. Drift is one of the areas a tt01 CAN Hang. Same thing goes for the E10, you arent gonna see them competing at the Worlds onroad, but when it comes to drifting they can be just as good as any other car.

I asked him if i could try and it was so easy. Even though I have a tc4 that I bought for $150, I easily drifted his flashy yokomo around. Its just the amount of time and effort in practicing how to drift. Just like driving manual transmission. I sucked at first, but in a couple hours I got it down and it became a habit. |

well the yokes are over rated. the xrays are really worth it, in terms of adjustability ... its got more balls!
i drive cyclones now, got 2 of them ... a Moore Speed and a Black Ed. i used to be purely a TA03F driver, but parts where getting pretty hard to get locally, so i switched. of the 8 ta03's i've had at one time, i'm currently down to 2 and they are parts scattered all over several boxes ... need to upgrade some parts before rebuilding them. for a starter kit, i would definitely consider a Cyclone S. its a bit pricey compared to a TT01 but its got more muscle. |

hey i'm new in this rc drifting... i also planned to buy either tt01d or yokomo mr4tc sd.
both are good chasis i already ask rc drifters in my country and did a survey. the only thing that stop me from buying the yokomo is that i hv 2 change the setting alot when i went from one track to another... but i only need to change a little setting for the tt01d...(as so i was told) im scared if i bought the yokomo i wouldnt learnt how to setup the car properly. but if i buy the tt01d it can't keep up in competition. please give advise. i cant decide which 1 to buy. |

whoever told you that the tt-01 can't keep up in a drift competition is a liar, they shouldn't be saying that bacause they have not experience the wrath of my tt-01
