My New Vorza caught on fire today...so sad
It stinks, because it's less than two weeks old and no more than 30 minutes run-time. I didn't even get to do one recharge on my Li-po packs!
What could have caused it, defective ESC? I was running two 2S 5000mah 40C Li-po, it was balanced and full charged from my Passport Ultra.
I just saw puffs of blue smoke and then I saw flames...
Will HPIfix it since it's under warranty.

Wow, I'd be pissed. I sure hope they fix/replace it for you. I don't see why they wouldn't, this doesn't look like user error to me.

BTW, i read the ESC has an overload or temp feature and it was suppose to shut-down...i guess it didn't work.

Contact them ASAP if you haven't already.
They'd be a pretty awful company if they didn't replace or refund for you.

as long as they aren't bloated, i think they will be fine. also if they fix it, i would look into a tekin rx8

Frequent anyrace track that has a 8th scale electric class and you will hear stories :
Guys 8th scale speed controllers are nowhere near where they need to be far as i am concerned. I dont know the failure rate but i bet its up there around 30-40 % . Batteries keep getting better and less expensive but the speed controllers are no where near where they should be.

I use a HW 150A in my savage I had a Castle MM (like the one that fried in your buggy) in it originally but it was getting quite warm after 10 mins(over 120).
The 150A esc doesn't even get over room temps after 30 mins of nonstop driving
I put the castle in my truggy and it don't get as warm as the savage but its still warmer than I'd prefer.
TBJ GREAT PIC(I didn't look at the thread mc linked till I saw that) almost tempted to make that my background

Will HPI fix it since it's under warranty.

so anyone have an idea why my ESC would have fried itself like that?

Maybe it was malfunctional from the factory.
Mabye it was a bad one out of the batch and it was made with a lower amp output or mabye it just likes to catch on fire for fun.
Idk which one but im sure hpi will replace it for you.
