It looks like Castle licensed out their old version 1 sidewinder to Duratrax (the motor limit is less than the new SV2 or SCT Castle sidewinder and in line with the original sidewinder.)
The motor is one of the newer 4 pole motors. You'll probably find that you get as much torque (or more) than the velineon and more top speed.

So would it be a good purchase to replace the Vilineon system, or will it be another waste of over $100 for something that doesn't do anything more? My Vilineon system isn't shot, but eventually it will be so i was just looking at this since it was new.

If you're a racer and need the "latest and greatest" and have a spare $100 to spend, get it (actually you'd be spending more than double that on a different set up but that's besides the point). If not, I don't think you'll notice enough difference between the 2 to make it worth $100, but this is all personal opinion.
A velineon 3500KV versus this 4 pole 3900KV would be a small step up in performance, but I'm not sure if it's a $100 step.

It's a GIANT LEAP in performance over the Velineon.
It powers ThunderbirdJunkie's SC10 4x4 around with reckless abandon. It's a ridiculous, awesome motor.

Just wanted to add to this thread, I got a Duratrax Element 3900kv (ESC & Motor combo) couple days ago and it ROCKS!!!
at $130 CDN (which I know is expensive for this unit) You can find it cheaper but for the price you basically get a scaled down Sidewinder 2
I've had my Evader EXT for 2 years countless upgrades this was by far the most rewarding and FUN upgrade... If you own a Duratrax car it should be running this setup
Of course I want Mamba Max Pro but the ESC/Motor combo is$300 and IKNOWit will not double my current speed with the element so best bang for your buck ELEMENTis a champ
If I rated it out of 10 it'd get a 9 (only cause I know better is out there... but at what cost) this was dirt cheap comparitively and I have a Castle Creations ESC and an awesome 4 pole motor
and the kicker I totally installed this myself there is the easiest programming when you first start but I did a manual program of all 7 or 8 feature and easy as hell
Thumbs up to Duratrax for this one - I'd recommend this product in a heartbeat
