RE: traxxas takes slash 4x4 to rally car!!!
I like it! This could be my next car - first 4x4 - as I'm a big WRC fan, and really want a rally car. Indeed, I made my DTX Evader into a Subaru WRC car so I could imagine myself racing like Petter Solberg and Sebastien Loeb. (Despite the arms and wheels hanging WAY outside the Tamiya Subaru body, it looks cool to me. See My Garage.) But to get a purpose-build 4x4 rally car is very compelling. Looks like it'd be a blast to drive.
I wonder about the tires, tho. I just read a "first drive" article about the car in RC Car Action, and they mention the tires/wheels are a little smaller than standard tires. So right there, it seems to limit tire/wheel choices. The gravel-rally tires it comes with look decent, but how good are they, really? And of course, I would want to put a Subaru body on it, or at least a WRC Ford Fiesta. Maybe a Citroen. (Hey, Loeb IS the best driver in the world!)
Then I wonder how much Traxxas is gonna charge for this thing. I'm gonna guess in the $3-400 range. Probably closer to $400.......or higher.
Which then makes me consider the DTX DXR8 4x4 buggy. Car Action gave it a good review. He almost TQ'ed the car against a field of nitros! At $299 for the roller, that's a little easier to take.

Not a bad car. I hate the 4wd slash, but i really like this car. Id like to know how much it is because if it's more than the 4wd slash I'll pass.
4wd slashes handle like piss on a race track. Nobody here runs them anymore, most have went to the 4wd SC10 or Durango 4wd SCT.

RE: traxxas takes slash 4x4 to rally car!!!
I had looked at the HPI WR8 and it is 3s capable. The body is cool for sure. But when you look closely it has plastic shocks, dog bones etc.. The traxxas looks cool, but the body is not a licensed one (I would have thought traxxas would have covered that area) the tires look/are small and it has no ground clearance to speak of, and is 3s capable.
Myself, I have been looking at this Rally here: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCPAW&P=7 same price as the HPI but has front and center cvd's, is 4s capable and is based off the eb-4g3 chassis. I own the eb4 g3 and the mt4 g3. it is built like a 1/8 scale buggy (tough) and runs the 2000kv Ripper motor (same as the eb4 and mt4) It has the same esc as the eb4 (80 amp). topped off with a mini cooper rally body.
I have always had great luck with Thunder Tiger products. Been flying Raptor helis for many years and their 1/8 scale surface vehicles have been great. IDK about 1/10 never owned one.
Anyway just throwing another option out there as far as rally cars go. I think the TTR would be stronger and faster for the money.
They all look fun though!
Regards.
