Default Castle Sidewinder V3 ESC issue

I got the Neu Castle V3 esc and 5700 4 pole combo.
Took it to the track today and I can't even get 1, 5 minute race in before it shuts down. I can only assume it's heat related as I shot the esc at 158 degrees and that was after putting the smallest pinion i dare run an 18t 87 combo on 2s 5000mah.
That thing should run all day as the motor is only at 128 degrees.
Is this a common castle issue? Is there an auto setting for heat that we can adjust?

you might be able to add a fan to the Esc, spend 25 bucks to get the programmer and turn the timing down ? Not sure what the default settings are....otherwise welcome to Castle speed controls

Yup that stuff will be here Wednesday- Running with an 18t is NOT an option, it's to slow to be competitive it needs to be a 20t at least.
I was running a 23t with the 3300 motor and could barely keep up and it never did over heat but that esc had a fan.
I may adjust the timing as long as it doesn't hurt the torque to bad or I will have to drop down to my HPI setup that is a 4000kv 4 pole.
I really thought Castle was the way to go , needless to say I am very disappointed in it and will not be ordering any of their esc's ever again.

Something doesn't sound right here. First off, what did you put this system in? 18/87 doesn't sound too terribly low, depending on what vehicle we're talkin' about. It's possible that, depending on tire size, you might have it geared too low. Too low a gearing has the system running at full blast all the time, and that can mean a higher temp at the ESC. Try going up a tooth or two. My buddy is running an Sv3 in a 4wd truggy that weighs about 5lbs, and he has no overheating issue. (NOTE that Castle states that the Sidewinder systems are for cars 5lbs or UNDER.)

he is using the combo in a XXX-Sct. Guessing the default esc timing/punch might be cranked up ?

I have ran a 4300kv 4 pole (rocket) geared 22/88 and it never got above 135f with a RC Gearshop 80amp ESC and the speedo stayed cold 110-115. A missile down the straight

Yes it is in a xxx-sct setup for oval racing.
The timing was default as well as punch, I bought the program box and turned the punch to 50% and the timing down 2 degrees and added a fan to the esc.
Now the last time i ran a practice session on a bit shorter track the esc was at 119 and the motor at 148 running a 20t/86 and was a friggin rocket down the straights. I ran a full battery 5000mah 50c through it then shot the temps.

Default Sw3 or motor issue.

I have a sprint 2 flux with the sw3 and stock motor setup with stock gearing. It was running great then the last run i noticed the esc didnt make a tone when i plugged my pack in. Then the motor would studder or not go at all forward or reverse. I am in the process of uploading a video to youtube showing the problem.

I dumped this setup shortly after posting. The Castle 3800 SCT edition is a much better motor and esc for the heavier trucks.
