Hi Charlesmp, I just finished an RB6.6. Suggesting a motor will depend on what you want to do with it. How do you plan on running the buggy, race, or just for giggles and grins?

Mostly just running it around a backyard dirt track.

How big is the track, does it have large doubles and or triples? If so I'd for a higher powered sensored system and skip a 17.5 system. Maybe 10.5. if you ever intend to go club racing I'd stick with a 17.5

I am really new to anything other than bashing. May I ask the reason why for the two different motors?

I was looking at a team orion I think it was around 7 turns, I do not recall off the top of my head.

Thanks for the help

The reason for two different motors is, a 17.5 is not going to be fast on a large track unless you over gear it. At 13.5, or 10.5 would be ok to good respectively. I only suggested the 17.5 in case you had planned on club racing. The RB6 series of buggies excels on a prepared track, especially in a competition scenario. Of properly set up, it would probably be a load of fun on a loose track.

17.5 2wd buggy is a popular race class in club racing. Anything beyond that is considered Mod buggy I think.

Thanks for taking the time to explain that. Lots of times people just want to give their opinion without explaining. So I appreciate it. I think I will start out with the 17.5 and go from there.
thanks again.

Not a problem.

You asked for input on motors. I can tell you, from what I've seen, the RB6 can handle quite a bit of power. I'd almost suggest going with a HW system that can handle a range of motors, that way you won't have to purchase a separate ESC. I bought the Tekin RS Gen2 so I can go with a hotter motor if I decide to. It's kind of a way to be cheap I guess.. lol. Orion stuff is really really nice... Also really expensive. If the cost doesn't bother you by all means go for it. I love Orion stuff, just couldn't bring myself to pay that much for a 17.5 sensored system..

Blue one is my laydown 6.6, green one is my buddies stand up trans I just wired up.
