RE: Newbie help TT-01
Well if you mean the Tamiya TEU-101 ESC they only rate it for the 540 silver can or sport tuned motor. I have seen a fews guys run 27 turn stock motors like the p2k2 with no problems.

you may use any motor down to 23turns [although most versions of teu101 need a fan to work at 23t properly]. i recommend the p2k2, the green machine 3, the monster horsepower, the tamiya 350rz [nice motor!], and the towerhobbies speedstocker. all of these will be twice as fast towards the stock mabuchiRS540sh.

more speed for a reasonable price I guess I would be willing to upgrade the esc but not too $$$$ mostly into nitro but this is just collecting dust thought I'd play with it again

yes you can use the stock gearing. actually you may use a larger pinion to gain speed with the high-torque ones [like the p2k2, the greenmachine3 and the monster horsepower].

If you want to gain a lot of speed I would suggest a Duratrax Intelispeed 16T for $50 at Tower Hobbies and a 17T motor(between $15 and $100) like the Orion Havok 17t. Thats what I run in my TL-01 and it made a world of difference in my top speed and power.

RE: Newbie help TT-01
Just my opinion but I would stay away from Duratrax Speed Controllers In my experience they don't last very long. Some people have good luck with them, so I don't known if it is a quality issue or not. If you don't plan on organized racing, for the money ($46.99) the [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGNG5&P=ML]Novak XRS Reversible Sport ESC [/link] is a good buy. Since it has no reverse lockout it won't be legal for most racing clubs but it has a 15 turn rating. Novak makes quality stuff and backs there products in my experience.
