I was looking at the Tamiya Baja King Kit at towwerbobbies and it didn't have ecs, it had mechanical speed control. What I was wondering was is there a way I can change it to esc instead of mechanical speed control. Thanks
Feel free to talk about any tamiya kit.

Using an ESC is a no brainer. Just plug it in, it will work
I would also suggest getting these shafts on all 4 corners

What I was also wondering was would the baja king be a good one to upgrade? I know that right out of the box it can do around 20mph, any ideas on what I could buy to make it faster? Thanks

Look, save your money and get something nicer, and newer, such as a gravel hound, rising storm, or my recommendation, the dark impact. All are newer cars than the aging baja, and will be much better in the long run. Note that the dark impact does not include a esc though.

Cool thanks for the info. While I was looking at the rising storm at towwer hobbies I noticed in the requires part you needed to buy a Radio: 2-ch radio with standard servo I really not to sure about the 2-chpart and the servo. Could you explain what I would need to get? Thanks

Ok, you are going to need to buy a 2 channel radio, charger, and battery/s whatever you get. For the radio, any of these

will do, make sure it includes at least one servo. i would recommend the Futaba 2PH for a newbie.
The rising storm would be a much better car, there is WAY more upgrades available, and its a generally better car than the baja king.
For batteries, as newbies often don't know what to get, and can easily make bad decisions based on price, you want (for best runtimes) batteries over 3000mah. Theres alwasy plenty of good deals on fleabay, but from tower, for low prices,
long runtimes:

good value (not really, but for tower)

Thats 2wd, for a start, and pretty crappy imo. Its old, and a RTR. This guy wants a kit, which is the way to go for a newbie. He'll actually know how to fix it if something breaks, and not have to come posting here about "my car doesnt work whats wrong!"

...dood i have to go with RCXBoy on this one...Forego all the pain and just start with a Dark Impact...MUCH better in the long run...EVEN if its your first car i wouldnt wish a Baja King on you and the Rising Storm is just being totally over-shawdoed by all them sexy Darkies out there

The Dark Impact comes with the main upgrades you would want on a Rising Storm (ball bearings), and apart from that the next upgrades aren't necessary at all for a newbie. Its very new (only out this year i think), there will be a lot more support for it, it'll probably go faster than a rising storm, but it does cost a bit more. You'll need a esc as well (not included as it is with the RS) and it costs about $30US more. But hobby people has a $20 off $100+ at the moment i think, so thats $120 vs $140 normally.

If you really want to, then you'd be fine getting a rising storm. I had mine for a year and only broke one part because I did a tree flip. I ran a 27t in it and a 19t and it handles both fine. All-metal gears and handles good. I do agree that a dark impact will sweep it away, but it's fun none the less.
