Electric motor Tempature Question??
Hello everyone I own an electric rustler with the XL-5 esc and titan 550 motor.
MY Question is this my motor gets up to around 150 to 200 degrees and I was wondering what's the hottest you can run an electric motor without frying it???

RE: Electric motor Tempature Question??
XL-5 PEDE with a titan? isnt it a 12T?, not the titan e-maxx motor?, but yeah dont let your motors go over 200 degree's thats to hot the hotter they get, the magnets inside the can flatten out and loose there magatizem, and wont work as good, and its bad on the brushes and the comm to go over 200 degree's, but you cant say its inbetween 150-200 you have to no, because if ur motors are running at 150 thats awesome not to hot!, ur running good!, but 190-200 your starting to get hot!, i dont let any of my motors go over 185f, i have a temp meter and if it hits 185, i stop it and let it cool! Jus extra security for my motors!, but yes if you gotta dont let them run Over 200 degree's![X(]

If your motor is getting that hot it may be over geard. It's best to try and keep them at 150 or lower (the cooler the better).

RE: Electric motor Tempature Question??
Got my stampede and the battery li-po 6000mAh 20C
For the first run...it's damn fast, really2 fast! then after 10 minutes there's a buring smell came from the motor ( titan 12T ).
Then the next day i ran it again and the performance drops. I email to traxxas and the said they will send a new motor to me.
Then i put in my yokomo 23T Stock motor in and it runs faster than the titan 12T . but not for long, the same burning smell came from the yokomo motor,
and after another 5 min, the motor is dead. But when i check, the carbon brush is almost finish.
It did the same thing to my stock mabuchi motor that usually comes with tamiya 1/10 touring cars.
Do u guys think the li-po battery did all this to my motors? what other motor should i use?
Do i actually burn my motor? don't really know how hot my motor was.
maybe becoz of the li-po, the run time is too long for titan??
Thanks!

RE: Electric motor Tempature Question??
How many cells is the LiPo battery? The Tamiya Silver cans are meant to be run at ~ 7.2v or a 2S LiPo. same with the Titan 12t (I think the limit is 8.4v for the titan). Any higher voltage should burn them out pretty fast.
