buy it and when it doesnt go 55, sue for false advertisement.
(they probably mean 55mph "SCALE" speed.)

Since we are talking about speed, will the Rustler XL5 really do 35MPH. I am torn about getting it. I want a fast stadium truck to beat on and do jumps.

55 mph going down a very steep hill with a hurricane pushing behind it. That is definately a Tamiya rip-off...looks like a TL-01 with extended arms. Anyone who buys that, hasnt been in this hobby for very long....... And yes you can scale speed. Everything about this hobby is "scaled". What rock hit you in the head?

Battery powered hitting 55 mph?
No way, not with anything within the RC market anyhow. Maybe if you find yourself a beer can sized 24 volt motor from the tooling industry rated for 50,000 RPM's and then wire 3 7.2 volt batteries in series rated with some hefty amp hours say in the 3500 Mah range you'll get that plastic turd running 55 mph.
According to the math, my RC10L buggy should hit 30 mph with the 13 turn motor I just installed. With custom gearing and some truck tires, I can probably get it pushing 40 but, I just went nitro for such break neck speeds. Can't exactly drive RC cars that go 40 mph around the residential jungle safely.
Which leads to my final statement, how many nitro trucks will actually hit 55 mph??
I'd bet most are in the 45-55 mph range without some upgrades to hit or exceed that 55 mph bar........

55mph isn't all that extreme, maybe hard to control and unrealistic, but can easily be reached with a decent BL system in a car, truck or buggy.... There is a electric powered car that has been clocked at 135mph *with video* and that same car has unofficially reached even higher speeds, somewhere around 150-160 range if I remember right... I'm sure Google could find it
The Jato 3.3 "nitro truck" has officially reached 67mph, I believe it was RCCA that clocked it.. Even the 2.5 could do 55....... and, there is a vid of a nitro car breaking 100mph on the net somewhere (YouTube maybe?).. I know, it's a car and not a truck, but still...
For nitro MT's: 35-45mph is about the range for stock/RTR's... you really don't need any more than that for a MT IMO...

I had overlooked the brushless option though I've been looking at them a lot lately. They seem to be cutting edge and slowly overtaking the nitro world. I've been looking at some mini industrial rated brushless motors that would definitely get you in that 100 mph zone though I can't see a point, one crash would destroy even an all aluminum RC
On a side note, I happened to come across some adapter modules that allow you to use your existing speed control to wire in and control your BRDC motor. Good news for the Frankenstein modders in the hobby world.

i reckon its a bit of a play on words...
they might be saying that gas powered trucks can hit 55mph... trying to trick people into thinking it can hit that speed... when it definately cant...
and theres not a chance in hell that it would keep up with an e-zilla... i clocked mine stock at 38mph... before i upgraded the motors...
also just a little thing, one of the sites says it has a
and the other says it has a
not that that would make much of a difference to the speed...
also i had my street weapon with a 35t pinion, a 70t spur and a 12x3 motor run by 8.4v 3300mah batteries running at nearly 55mph, a couple of mph short if i remember correctly. but it took so long for it to get up to speed and it drained the batts in about 2 mins... so i scrapped the set-up and geared it down for better acceleration, now it hits just over 35mph...
speeds up to nitro gas powered trucks (55+ mph)!

I think I am getting the jist of this forum. A bunch of guys who have spent £xxx on their remote controlled cars knock those that have just drifted into the hobby and spent £xx. Am I right?
I have the Bonzer (Speedy Cobra) and I love it. Well worth the cash IMO and looks very well made for what I paid (about £55 uk). The manufacturer (Sicorp) makes OEM bits for HPI and Tamiya apparently so they told me. Everything is made in China nowadays.. even Tamiya parts it seems.

Hehe no not all of us have that view, speed9.
I for one keep an open mind with other R/C toys, and I don't just shove them off if they aren't money eaters. My parents run a small retail store where we sell all sorts of R/C cars other than hobby level R/C's, and to admit alot of them are pretty nifty little things. If it's not the speed, it's those other little neat trinkets in them that make them so great.
However I do not deny the fact, particular board members have gained this kind of... "ego" shall I say, where they believe the equipment they own is by far superior than someone elses. Trust me though, you don't see that too often around here.
Any way about the topic:
That thing might just reach 16-20 mph, but it would really be pushin' it. I've seen toys smaller than those, with the same motor/battery setup that can barely reach 20mph, so I doubt a slightly heavier truck such as that can manage to pull it off.
Doesn't look too bad though.

speed9, i dont think anyone on this forum is trying to "knock" you because you, or someone else, cannot afford big expensive models. you have to understand that people on this forum do actualy know what they are talking about. and for the same price, (rrp $199.99) many people on this forum could find a truck or car that would perform a hell of a lot better than the one in question.
myself i have not spent much money on rc cars. i got my street weapon as a present, my e-zilla was also a present, my TT-01 was only £80, i had to sell my rush evo cos i couldnt afford it, and im still paying for my nt18t... im 17 and i get around £30 a month... im not what youd call rich...
