Default scratch built dragster...

hey guys... i have a new project

im gonna build a dragster!!

so far its just an idea and it will take me a looooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnng time to complete i think.

its gonna b built from scratch and made from a mixture of alluminium, graphite and carbon fibre, which ever i can get my hands on at the time.

some parts, such as wheels and gears and shocks ect, bits that its hard to make to a good quality, will be stolen from other models.

its gonna b brushless and run by lipos, and its gonna go like s**t off a shovel!!! i think...

soooo, if anyone has CAD software that they know how to use, give me a shout cos i realy need your help with parts design.

my email is [email protected] so give me a shout...

also if any of you have any ideas for anything, feel free to tell me...

I had a similar idea. Was gonna run a aluminum chassis and make it really long and low.

yeah thats the idea... at the moment im thinking of hacking up a mardave rear end so that its a lot narrower and mounting the motor lengthways instead of running the width of the car (in an attempt to make it narrower), bolting it to a loooooooooooooong chassis, i was even thinking of tvp as that would cut down on weight, and then adding a servo at the front.

ive also been looking at getting some cox chopper tyres for the rear... propper goodyears, nice and wide with plenty of grip...

I have some 1/8" fiberglass sheet...wonder how a dual plate chassis of that would do.

mmmmm, sounds prety good, never used fibre glass before, is it strong? as strong as ally for example? would it need to be cut by a specialist? i can cut alluminium but from what ive read, fiber glass can shatter...

It's really light and flexable and easy to cut. I would use dual plate because it's flexible.

An electric dragster would be better than a nitro engine one.

No interest in selling the stuff. DO you want the chassis or material? I'm sure you could obtain the material elsewhere.

Ya that link doesnt work...

I would rather use carbonfiber for the chassis I just dont want to spend that much for a project I'll rarely use and I want to use up the fiberglass.

hmmm, they look like a good bet for the chassis material, its prety cheap too, under $12 for a 24x12" sheet... thats about £6+postage...

so, do you have any info on the material, ive never used it so i havent got a clue... im guessing its prety sturdy for the thickness...

and how easy is it to cut? i might have a go at it myself if its easy enough...

It's very easy to cut but It's not the strongest thing there is as I said it's quite flexable but in a dual plate onroad chassis it should hold up.

What tools do you have because that design looks pretty easy espicially in 3mm alloy.
