Default RC Noob Looking for Help (Dirt Thrasher)

Hello All,

I am an Electric RC Noob (new to the hobby , new to this site). I am reading as much as i can to get the info i am looking for, but i am affraid that i am running out of time.

The buggy i would like to by is for my son (and me), this is why i am choosing to go electric (not nitro).

Here is the buggy i would like to buy: http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAd?AdId=8863830

My first question is:

1) Is this a good deal? (please keep in mind that these are Canadian dollars, so prolly about 125$ US)
2) Would i be able to hop this buggy, or is it too out dated?
3) How do i create my own forum for future questions? ( normally i like to solve things myself, but im runnning out of time)

Please forward any info to the following address : [email protected]
Any Help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Seems a little high for some very old tech. Have you looked at ebay? are you willing to go a little higher for new?

HI GAG, thanks for the reply.

I guess i would be able to go alittle higher for new (do you have any recomendations?) . I have bought from ebay before, i guess im just trying to avoid shipping costs.

I just want to pick something up thats better quality than the junk you'd buy at walmart.

I wouldn't say its a great deal but its not bad either
I personally would not.
I know you can get the car for about $100 online or under and it comes with a esc as well
I have a mini T that I would be willing to sell for less then that that has a bunch of aluminum on it as well as 2 esc units.
Pm if interested if not I would look online for better deals for new units as there are often problems with used things that people dont tell you about (Happened to me when doing trades with people in the US)

The only reason i am avoiding nitro is because i would like my son to be able to use the car even when im not around. I dont think he's ready for the responsibility of nitro yet. As for the 1:18 scale, how to they compare in performance VS the 1:10 cars? Are they 1:18 much slower, how would they run on grass (backyard)? Sorry for being a pest, your help is greatly appreciated.

Im a computer guy , if you have any questions about repairing your PC or upgrading hardware\software, please feel free to ask.

I still advocate Stampede the best. It is $175 at Tower Hobbies, a little bit higher, but it is very strong and very fun. It is my third RC car (one nitro, two electric) and it is my favorite.

Yeah the Stampede would be the best for backyard bashing

I agree with the Stampede idea. Spend a little more, get a new package and before you know it, you'll be upgrading for MORE FUN. Upgrades don't have to get that expensive either.

Thanks RCX for the input,

Jamie and I work working on it earlier today. He's getting the following stop error: 0x000000ED (0X82FE6900,OXC00000006,0X0000000,0X0000000).This indicates that the I/O subsystem attempted to mount the boot volume and it failed. A reinstall might solve the problem, if the HD or HD cables are not damaged.

you are welcome,

One thing you might want to try........if you have no important info on your laptop you can try to install windows from scratch....... if you have a windows install disc, boot from cd.

good luck

I'd like to thank everyone for their feed back. I did go ahead with the purchase of the Dirt Thrasher. I talked the seller down to $100.00 CAD. Please take a look at my profile: freestyle5150.rcuniverse.com, i have posted pics of the lot i bought. Ive tested the vehicle and it runs really well. I think i will be a good starter vehicle for me and my son.

Thanks Again

hello,

i'm just trolling through forums killing time and saw this...

i realize you already got a car, and that's cool. i'd say, from a "noob" standpoint, one of the most important things you'll deal with now that you have a car and all that is your batteries. you want to make sure you get you some good nihms, the higher mah the longer run time. and make sure you get yourself a good charger that will charge nihm as well, cause if you try to do it with a nicd charger you'll kill them. good = peak charger, not timed. from what i could find (quickly) the 925 is a peak charger, but i do'nt know if it will do the nihm.

the tekin rebels (from my research) show to have a turn rating of 10. the lower the turn the faster you go, but also the faster you drain batteries. a 19t would be "fast enough" especially if you're learning to drive, or more importantly, your son is. it would be fast enough to be fun but slow enough to be drivable.

what you got should definitely get you started. if you get the itch to upgrade, the stampede is the way to go, in my opinion. and i had a mini-t, they're ok on flat surfaces (road, carpet), but worthless in the yard. plus i stripped 3 differentials jumping it. shoulda installed a ball diff i guess...oh well...

good luck!

Thanks bronco .........Ill look into nimh batteries for sure......check out the new tamiya rs540 motor i just picked up, i think its a 23turn.........would that be better than the stock tamiya 540. Also, the rs540 motor i picked up, am i able to take it apart or is that a sealed can? Picture are on in my gallery.

Thanks again guys....... i feel like a little kid on Christmas
