Default TP-1010C vs SM-5500A

TP-1010C: http://www.nesail.com/detail.php?productID=4183
SM-5500A: http://www.slowflyer.ch/500558944b09...8ed0dff106.php

They look the same, yet the TP-1010C is more expensive and doesn't charge nimh and nicd batteries. Is there something else that I'm missing? Thanks.

They are the same. The SM comes from the factory's backdoor. If TP had their way, it wouldn't be on the market (it makes their model seem overpriced).

SM: lower price, round cell charging

TP: USA-based customer service and support

Well does the TP charge the nicd and nimh batteries then if they are the same?

Nope. The hardware is the same, but the firmware on the chips is different.

Is there any way to upgrade the firmware on the TP or would I be better off selling my TP and buying the SM?

Yeah, you can spend $30 for the upgrade cable for the TP-1010. BUT, there's no way to put Nixx software on the 1010. Tp has chosen to not release it.
